Could be a couple things. First it could be scar tissue from previous damage. Second it could be lymphocystis. Neither is contagious nor life threatening. Lymphocystis will start to look like cauliflower as it grows. Think of it as fish herpes, it comes about due to stress, then it will go away on it's own.

Looks like
Lymphocystis. Had a hippo with it right before it’s tail. Was never an issue. Didn’t lose appetite and no one else seemed to have been exposed

Really need larger image under white lighting. One pic, looks like it is showing little worms which could be flukes.
For temporary relief, you may give it a 4-5 minute freshwater bath and see if anything falls off to bottom of container (will look like sesame seeds). ASSURE THE FW TEMPERATURE IS SAME OR EVEN A TAD WARMER THAN TANK TEMPERATURE

They are skiddish with pics. You can try a video setting your phone on video and walking away for a couple of minutes.

Did it ever go away? Or does it stay on them?

Lympho doesnt really have a cure other than to maintain Good water quality and provide the best diet possible. I always recommend for tangs the minimum:

Nori seaweed basted with garlic extract
Spirulina brine shrimp
Formula 2 flake and frozen
LRS Herbivore diet
Mysis shrimp
small plankton

Add selcon vitamins 2-3X per week and on alternating days garlic extract to foods for immunity health

Yes it went away, but there still seems to be like a growth slightly visible that’s now part of the fish skin it is not white (scar possibly??) Eats like a monster and is normal.

Thank you! That is great information! I’ll definitely add that to my feeding routine.
