Like many of us in the hobby, the hobby started for me in college, and here we are 21 years later!
My first tank, a 20 gallon tall that I got used from my uncle. Started the tank with power compacst, and then as I learned more about the hobby , purchased more equipment, and my first Double Ended HQI halide (Aquaspacelight) I remember driving 2 hours to south Jersey to pick it up. I started this tank in my dorm room, and then brought it home once summer hit. It did really well for a dorm room tank! Here you can also see my hacked together hood, and fan system in the back to keep the tank cool.
This was my 20 Gallon before I broke it down and upgraded to a 50 Gallon. That was a great tank.
Now Onto my 50 gallon tank:
I kept my HQI pendent, added some LEDs for night lights, added an auto top off system with float valves, and had a hang on back refugium. I also had the AquaC Remora Pro Skimmer (started on the 20gallon), on this tank too. Here is the tank when I first started it and moved everything over (and added a ton of new dead rock to the tank
A bit more Matured:
And some of my favorite fish I had in the tank:
Flasher Wrasse
Dragon Faced Pipe Fish
After this I had almost a 10 year break in the hobby. When I got back into it, it was with my 29 Gallon Biocube. I won't dive too deep with pictures as I have a build thread in my signature, but it was a pretty heavily modded cube that I loved! Here's a pic from when it was rocking!
Now fast forward to August of 2023, and I'm rocking my new Deskmate 4.8 gallon tank, and I absolutely love it! Been keeping this one simple, just water changes every 8-10 days (depending on how weekends fall) feeding consistently, and manually topping off the tank, and everything is happy, healthy and growing! Mods include an RFG on the return pump, a custom acrylic/glass top I made myself for $15, Kraken Reef basket in the back for filter floss, and a Radion Gen 4 XR15 on the top. I have this at my office and absolutely love it. It's a great little piece of the ocean that is doing well, and keeps the passion alive for me!
Thanks for looking! Lets see your journeys!
