Hi as title states my YWG is grey. When I bought it, it was bright yellow, now it doesn't shed any hint of yellow. I feed everyday and it eats Hikari Seaweed Extreme and Ocean Nutrition Formula One Pellets eagerly. It's breathing is normal rate. It is paired with a tiger pistol shrimp. I haven't tried feeding it carophyll yellow pellets, I heard it enhances its yellow coloration. Should I try feeding it carophyll yellow pellets? What else should I do to bring back its yellow coloration? Thanks

P.S. will post pics in the morning. It is hiding in its cave rn.

I'm not sure if the sexual dimorphism is the explanation.

There are clearly spawning pairs where both were yellow when young and grey when old. PaulB has one such pair. See these photos:

Biota also sells tank raised Yellow watchmen gobies that are stated to be the grey version, and they also sell the yellow version and also say some can change color based on background colors. They also say food alters coloration.

Hi everyone thanks for the replies. I see, I already read online that this could be because they are changing sex but others said it just lacks some carophyll yellow supplements. I'll try feeding it carophyll yellow and see if there's any changes. But if there's none I'll get it a breeding pair.

P.S. didn't get a pic of my YWG still hiding in the morning, and I went to work early.
