Long story short: I wanted to aquascape my rocks so I broke down my reef tank, dipped the rocks in bleach for 2 seconds, and built a structure with all the rocks while they were dry for 1 week.

I used to have xenia in the old build…a lot of it. Well today I see two pieces of malformed looking xenia poking out of the rocks…

I definitely did not add xenia there. I’m 100% sure. This had to have come from the rocks. I think.

I’m wondering…can live rocks stay alive even if they were dried for a week? Max ammonia was .50 while cycling…and nitrates were 10ppm max. Now it’s 2ppm

Could this be why my tank never went through an ugly stage 1.5 months in?

The xenia is on the right pillar. Second rock from bottom.
