Mystery Coral

My wife brought home two coral from Petco. Can anyone tell me what they are? One has a string through the middle should I remove it?

They're both leathers it looks like. Probably toadstool leathers coming from Petco, but they have other varieties on occasion.

 

[Tidal Gardens]

Looks like a Toadstool Leather. That used to be a very common way to secure them down when fragged. You can cut the excess off if it is secured to the rock well enough that it will not detach.
