Hi all, I have taken delivery and filled my new Peninsula 500 tank, added live rock, sand etc (all new)

I have an existing 30 litre Nano with live rock, sand Marine Pure block 8x8x4 (original filtration )and a gallon of Marine Pure 1.5” spheres. ( been seeding in tank awhile now)

I am seeding my new tank from the nano but wondering how long it will take before I can transfer my tank contents and inhabitants, moving marine pure block, spheres, sand and live rock. (Not all at once of course)

I only have two Clowns, yellow tail blennie, pyjama Cardinal , shrimp and few CUC, plus three small frags of various SPS, so not much livestock.

I need to take back the space the nano is taking to change the threat level down from defcon 2 (wife status on use of space)

any thoughts?

thanks

My gf gave me a room for all my fish and reptile shenanigans luckily. However whenever I get a new tank I'm sure to set it up when she isn't there... I feel those judging eyes.

I don't like recommending fish all that often because it is a personal taste thing. But a tang like a powder brown or a mimic tang would be a cool addition

Thanks, I see you feel my pain and can plan ahead.

Fish I am happy with, your right, yellow tang, foxface/rabbitfish are on my list. It’s more how long will my cycling take if I add in all my existing stock, is it like a new cycle still or will it just be like a 60% water change?

I went from a 25 nano to a 120. Nano was 2 years old. I moved 30 lbs live rock from my nano and 30 lbs of new caribsea into the 120. Added 3 small bottles of turbo start. Waited 3 weeks but never saw a cycle. Ran my t5's 2 bulbs from start for 2 weeks then 4 for 2 then all 6 on. Not much of a diatom cycle either. Added my clown, lawnmower blenny, and pajama cardinal on week 3 and 6 blue green chromis at week 4, along with snails cleaner and fire shrimp from nano too. Ran skimmer from day one. Kept the nano running for another month with some live rock and most of my frags.
The key is to have everything you are planning to run on your 130 in place before starting. This leads to the key to reefing,"Stability" imo. I used Vibrant at around month 3-4.5 to get rid of some bad algae and once corilline took over no more bad algae.
Only additional fish is my yellow wrasse.
Start pic in August 2019 and today pics 7 months later.

Pics? Once the 130 is cycled you should be able to transfer all. Add some bottled bacteria. How much live rock and was it real live rock did you add to the 130.

thanks, your tank looks great, as you say all is in place, quantum skimmer, reactor, etc.. I added a few bits fir cycling such as phYao, fish food etc and will watch the chemical tests with anticipation, I think I have to sit with patience and see what occurs in the tests.

Looks good! I ran 2 part for 5.5 months now carx. I only run filter sock and skimmer.
Dose trace and do not do water changes. I try to keep it simple. Following! Keep it updated.

When I consolidated from a nuvo 10 and nuvo 20 to a 40B, I seeded and cycled my additional rock in a 5g bucket of saltwater with a pump for 4 weeks. I then moved all rock from both tanks and my bucket, marinepure, fish, inverts and corals all in one go and I didnt lose a thing.

Think of it this way: your current rock, marinepure and sand already has enough bio filter to support your current livestock. If you move the rock and marinepure it should still support your current bioload. Just go slow with any further additions as you do lose some biofilter when you toss the old sand out

(Fish are in QT due to an ich outbreak. QT inverts in your old tank!)

Great ideas to think about Btmedic. I will test for the next couple of weeks and see how the levels look, then think about planning a full shift over after 4 or 5.

Thanks all for the help
