Hello Everyone!
Very new to saltwater reef aquariums, but quickly upgraded for 40 gallon tank with very basic system, added 20 gallon QT and 50 gallon DT. Now I’m super excited to build a full system with sumo tank. It is a AIO but I am adding a 40 gallon sump for more volume and better control. I’m having a cabinet custom build and will be using Neptune and Apex systems to help control everything. Using 3 Hydra 32 HD lights to cover the 48” tank. LED strip lights for sump. Look forward to comments, especially about adding sumo to AIO tank, since it’s not required.

Just built part of my rock scape. Never built one before, but I like the way flat rocks look when they’re put together right. So this will be my first set to hold part of the coral I already have.

Also received the Neptune and apex system a couple days ago. If anyone has good pointers on setting it up please let me know.

Replacing the controller, really? Is there something wrong with it, or just upgrading? The RW 45 is cool, much bigger than I thought it would be. And it works great in my current tank. But I’m going to have to get another one for my new tank and they’re pretty dang expensive. So that kinda sucks.

Excited to see this setup, I’m curious about these tencor tanks
I’m curious about their tanks too. Kinda had a hard time with customer service. They don’t have a phone number, only email. But I needed them to drill drain and return holes to convert it internal overflow instead of AIO. It will just have a huge 20 gallon overflow box. Lol. Since the media wall was for AIO. But they ended up responding to my email and drilling all the holes for me.

so they removed the AIO part and replaced it with a smaller rectangle piece and drilled through the bottom? I'm thinking about having a 36x18x12 AIO made which they said would be roughly 28g.

I'm going back and forth regarding a sump and going that route too but I'm terrible at containing salt spray and all that when I have stand sumps lol

No, I spoke to them about removing it and they said it doesn’t have to be removed. On the left side of the tank, where the water flows into media section it has to go through a media cup. I had them drill two 1” holes for the drain and backup drain right under the media cup. Then on the right side, where the pump sits I had them remove them pump and drill a 1” hole for the return. They said the media section could just work like a large overflow box by using it this way. But they said it would work fine.

Almost done with aquarium stand! I’m having to age all the pine because my wife wants antique so she gets antique. So hours of grinding, sanding, chipping, then staining. Then prayed 4 cans of flex seal to waterproof the sump area. Got two sicce pumps, 7.0 & 6.0, and large roller mat, then realized my protein skimmer is way too small, Red Sea 300. Any advice on that would be handy because it will definitely not handle 1200gph. It’s rated for something like 300 gallons, but flow rate won’t work. Kinda feel like a sellout, I was going to go all ref, Microalgae and all that. Anyone know much about doing a ref with roller mat?

Got aquarium up, holes drilled, and stand built. Doors are off while I’m working on plumbing. The aquarium is a AOI, but I converted it to sump and I’m using a large portion of the back for ATO water. I just siliconed an extra partition and it will hold 7 gallons of fresh water for top off. Thought that was pretty cool being able to utilize the back portion like that. Plumbing sucks, next time I will plan and draw it first, but this was my first time to ever do it, so I just got after it.
Going to start adding sand and water tomorrow. I’m going to run a fuge so there is some natural stuff going on with the cleaning. Also going to wire everything up and clean and zip tie all the wires. A lot of work, but really think it will be worth it.
