I have the opposite! I let my alk go where it wants any more and quit paying attention as long as it’s over 8 I don’t care.. I’ve had 2 kalk over doses and my alk dropped from 10 to 4.8 in like 2 hours as it snowed like crazy in my tank! Both times “2 months apart” I let it rise back up over a week or so and not a single loss! I think it’s got something to do with the biome and that’s where I’m placing my money! I dose bacteria so I know my tanks biome is built up and that seems to be the only thing we need to keep stable or work on! At least that’s my experience and new thinking…
I dose all alk during nighttime (Na2CO3) in order to withhold higher pH. In the mornig - around 8.6 - late evening around 7.6 dKH. No coloured sticks however :)

Sincerely Lasse
maybe we all (the hobby in general) are overthinking it..
I wonder of your corals are just hardier

Nah I got about 80 acro’s currently and some are fresh maricultured which don’t do well in captivity and they’re still loving life! That’s what got me scratching my head.. my older Ora pieces sure, I can see them being hardier but over the years I’ve had nothing but problems trying to acclimate wild or mariculture sticks and I have a 100% survival rate so far on the last 2 batches I’ve tried.

Nice! I love stick tanks.
My old 120 on halides!

This is a beautiful example of colors, associated to a fuller spectrum. This system under RB's, would show colors that would blow minds I bet ;)

With my set up “halides and reef brites” it does just that! My pc rainbow will blow any new acro away sitting under blue LEDs.. the gold and neon green it picks up with halides looks nuts under blues only!

Corals lives in different places - some on the reef slope facing out to the open ocean - some in lagoons and sheltered places. It should not be a surprise that both pH and alkalinity can have different values according to time of the day, tide, rain or not, storm or not, clouds or not and so on. IMO - the steady chemical and physiological properties is a myth in many normal reef around the world.

Sincerely Lasse

Which led fixture could mimic best a metal halide 10-14k look ? Full spectrum with a white look.
The new quanta atlas is built just for that! It’s dimmable but you can’t change the spectrum! It’s as close to a 14k as you’re gonna get.

Orphek Icons with the Helius programs is sweet. I came from T5 Blue+/ Coral+ combo (approx. 14K) to the Orpheks and the ambient look is the same but I also get some extra pop. Blue corals especially are insanely nice.

The light stays the same color and spectrum the whole day and just changes intensity.................no blue man group garbage and fish colors are spot on.

See, this is exactly what I was talking about, real life proof, no nonsense, just facts! Problem is that this SPS forum doesn't know this mans experience, his success, and his impact on THOUSANDS of reefers in the game! Graphs, science, fancy words, and degrees... I tend to put my attention to those who get results. That said, let me just go ahead and let you guys know about Ed.

This guy BigE, has influence so many SPS gurus, it's worth taking the time to point out. Thank you Ed, for YEARS worth of experience and taking the time to share it. Your input in the T5 game will not be overshadowed or ignored, especially while I remain in the game. 50/50 C+ and B+ will have forever helped those who struggled to find a plug and play solution to acro keeping! If someone on R2R understands lighting as it relates to ACROS, it is this dude right here. I would take the time to research this dude and know his contributions. You may just learn something ;)

It will be interesting to see my current ext 170 running 2 RB 50's when it grows in. Just hung the 3 or4 uv-v bars.
Tank is 8 months old now and starting to come into its own.
Tank is brighter when the uv's are on.

A buddy just gave me 4 of the older ones.. 1 is updated to wifi.. I’ve been debating on using them. There’s a few diodes out but seems like a easy fix.. I don’t wanna spend $450 a piece thou to update the led boards and diodes.

Thanks Perry.........back at ya. Your contributions have been far and wide.

I have the Orphek Icons. If anyone wants more pics of sweet tanks under Oprheks look up Renton777 and Mantis. Both have had "Reef of the month" on this forum and have been featured in magazines.

I would also like to add that three of my friends that have seen my tank in person have bought Icons. Two switched to them from Radions..........the other from an 8 bulb T5.

Are those first generation? I had a friend that had those and they pack a wallop so make sure you use a par meter.

@Big E how high do you have those mounted?

I've upgraded tanks and my 6x54 Sunpower isn’t giving me the coverage I need. What’s always held me back from Orpheus is they need to be mounted high and that doesn’t work for my living room.

Your corals are looking outstanding as usual!!

Mine are at 17" above the water line. They can be mounted lower, you just have to make sure you turn the intensity down. What's the footprint of your tank? Two will give you max coverage on a 48x24 footprint.

This is a snapshot from BRS video..... two Orpheks compared to an 8 bulb Sunpower over a 24x48 footprint. You can do a search and find the video..............it's an older one way before the Aperture takeover.
Orphel vs Sunpower.gif

The Icons and the current Naturas are improved over the Atlantiks The Natura has a smaller footprint but wider range reflectors. Those would probably work better if you want to reduce over spill.
