My tank has been running for 5 months.
My parameters have been steady but, I have noticed since April 16th my ALK has been gradually falling down from 9.3 to 8.3. I know I'm still within
limits but, I thought I should try and raise them up to ~9.0.
Using BRS' calculator I needed to add about 2 oz. of soda ash, I have never done this before.
Yesterday I gradually poured in 1oz. into my sump. When I did, my mushroom and Duncan closed up. I didn't think this was a good sign.
So last night I was searching of a way to drip it into my sump.
I came across this DIY in "Reefkeeping magazine,
.
Made one myself, set up dripping my ALK at 1 drop every 2 seconds.

It worked good. I don't know if the drip was too fast or not. If your interested go to above link and it explains how to make it.

Well I will see how my tank does at having no problems . Went on vacation last Friday (8/28), won't be back till 9/5. Little nervous. First time at leaving tank. Although I do have my son checking on it and feeding the fish.

Do you have cameras on the tank?

Got back from vacation everything looked good and running. Glass was dirty from not being cleaned for week. Cleaned the glass. Took out 5 gals of water, replaced with 5 gals of NSW I brought back. Also added 1/4 cup of sand to my sump.

Tested my water yesterday, 9/28. My NH3 was 5; PO4 was .006 ppm with the Hanna ULR. My PO4 has been running around this so I decided to up it a little to see what would happen.
I added .05 ml of Na2HPO4 to 5 ml of water and added it to my sump. Retested my water today and my PO4 was .034. This is where I want to try and keep it. My Duncan looks the best since I have had.
