I was thinking of having a Pico tank with cool inverts that can't be in a display tank. This tank will be plumbed into my main display, so the problems of water quality will be negated. I was thinking of having zoas, acans, and leathers in the tank as well. Current stock list is 6 sexy shrimp, 3 pom pom crabs, a pair of bumblebee shrimp, 1 porcelain crab, 1 emperor shrimp and tiger sea cucumber pair.
Any issues with the stock? Any advice? How big will the tank need to be? Maybe fluval spec 5?

What are your thoughts of a harliquin shrimp? Do they only eat the tube of the star fish or the whole leg? I heard reports of both. Since they are messy eaters, if I have some nassarius snails will that help?
I think the tiger cuke should be in a tank larger than 5g.

Harlequin shrimp only eat the tube feet. However, the star doesn't die until the shrimp finishes it. Instead, its venom just paralyzes the star, so as long as you remove the star once the shrimp is done, there should be much pollution to the tank.

I posted this in another thread but I think it's more appropriate here.

I had a tank wipe and had to rework my stocking list.

Fish List
  1. Pistol shrimp and goby pair
  2. Tailspot blenny
  3. Swalesi basslet (preferred) or Swiss guard basslet
  4. Moyeri wrasse or other leopard wrasse
  5. Cirrhilabrus lunatus (1) or brunneus
  6. Cirrhilabrus Rhomboidalis (1), rubrimarginatus (3) or lineatus (2)
  7. Bell’s flasher wrasse or blue flasher wrasse
  8. Attenuatus flasher wrasse
  9. Group of Chromis, cardinals or anthias - TBD
  10. Starry blenny or orange spot Blenny
  11. Lightning Clowns
  12. Acanthurus tang ( undecided) -TBD
  13. Ctenochaetus Flavicauda
Inverts
  1. Blood shrimp x2
  2. Blue porcelain crab
  3. Emerald crab x2
  4. Maybe urchin
  5. Maybe starfish of some kind

Already in QT

Melanarus Wrasse (possibly for frag tank)
Yellow coris wrasse
Midnight ocellaris clowns (for frag tank)

I also have one cleaner shrimp still in the tank for the fallow period from the ICH

Does anyone see an issue with this other than getting my hands on all of them? Any suggestions?

I've put them in the order I plan on adding them in.

Thanks

What size tank? There aren't any glaring compatibility issues. Order looks good, but try and get the flasher wrasses before the fairy wrasses.

Should be fine then.

I'm more worried about rumours that Blennies can be coral eaters.... and I would very much like to put the melanarus in the main display with all the others. Should he be the last wrasse?

I've never had a problem with either of those blennies in a reef setting.

If you want to add the melanurus add it after the other wrasses.

Hello -

I have a 220 gal tank, non-live rock, fish only. It has been up and running for a couple months and has the following:

One Red Sea sailfin tang
Three lemon chromis
One royal gramma
Various snails and crabs including a tiger cowrie

This is my tentative stock list. Would appreciate opinions and ideas. If I am not thinking of something, please let me know.

Two clowns
Three Bangaii
Choc chip star
Coral beauty angel
Flame angel
Longfin banner
Lawnmower blenny
Diamond goby
A couple easy, peaceful, colorful wrasse species
Raccoon butterfly

Is this too many fish? Room for more? Overlooking something? Thanks in advance.

2 of the bangaii cardinals will pr up and kill the 3rd.

Add the coral beauty and flame simultaneously.

Choc chip stars, raccoon butterflies, longfin bannerfish, and the angels can all eat or nip corals.

Hi All, was wondering if I could get some opinions. I am currently cycling a 25g lagoon tank and am trying to figure out what I want to stock it with. I think I have it narrowed down but want to get some opinions. I'm hoping everything on the list will be compatible. If so, which to add first (fish wise). Thanks!

Green Clown goby
Midas Blenny
Royal Gramma
Randall's Goby

Pistol Shrimp (hopefully to pair with the Randall)
Cleaner shrimp

Assorted snails
Blue and Red Hermits
Emerald crab
Lettuce Sea Slug (i just love thee things!)

I was also hoping for a sexy shrimp but last on the list.

Hello, I posted this on a different thread but think this thread would better fit. I’m setting up a new 150gallon tank. Plan is for a mixed reef with clams.

Lineatus wrasse, orange-back fairy wrasse, McCosker’s flasher wrasse, (1 or 2 clownfish), 2 firefish (helfrichi), Royal gramma basslet, midas blenny, 3 Bartlett anthias, green mandarin, ruby red dragonet, yasha white ray shrimp goby, orange stripe prawn goby, yellow tang, yellow eye kole tang, and powder blue.

My concern is if I can add the following fish together with the above list, regal angelfish, flame angel, and a coral beauty.

Would this list work? Is it too many fish? Would the Regal Angelfish do well in a tank with all the listed fish? Appreciate the help!

Get the gramma in before the midas blenny.

The gramma will eat sexy shrimp.

150g is on the small side for a powder blue.

A regal will have a hard time thriving in that tank. They can be delicate and reserved, and tangs can be rough on other laterally compressed fish.

The flame and the the coral beauty will be fine, just try to add them simultaneously.
Is a 220gal big enough for a chestnut and an ember blenny?
No, choose one, because that is what you will end up with.

Hello.
I'm not new to saltwater fish but I'm new to tangs. I'm setting up a 150g tank, 48"Lx29"Wx26"H. My dream fish is an Achilles Tang, I'd like to add some other tangs to the tank (Zebrasomas). Do they fit? Should I stay just with the Achilles? I'm aware of ich, on the Acanthurus genus, all the fish will receive a proper quarantine but I don't want the Achilles to die in my hands due to bad husbandry.

Thanks

Achilles tangs really need a tank with more swimming space. 6' would be the minimum. They are also susceptible to parasites, so everything wet would need a proper qt. Other tangs can be housed with them though.

Hey everyone! So I have a 40breeder and currently have the following:
  • Green clown goby
  • Yellow watchman and pistol shrimp
  • 2 skunk cleaner shrimp
  • Bonded osc. Clowns
  • Royal gramma
  • Coral banded shrimp (he’s probably coming out)
  • Snails/hermits/emerald crab
I’m looking to add a few more fish but not sure what my limit should be or if the fish I’m thinking will be a good mix or not.

I would like to add either a coral beauty or flame angel. I would also like to add a yellow headed sleeper goby to help keep sandbed clean.

What are your thoughts and/or do you have any suggestions?

Thanks gang!

Thanks for the advice.

I run a store so getting a new tank is a common practice for me. I'll consider the possibility of getting it and make an upgrade when required.

A Purple Tang would be a good choice?

A flame would be fine, though it may nip coral. A coral beauty gets a little larger, it isn't a good fit for a 40g.

Yes, a purple tang will work.
