Hi everyone. I have a tank that is about 5 months old. I have been struggling with algae lately. I am looking for advice on several things. I have a Fluval 13.5 gallon tank. What does everyone suggest I use for the filter media in this tank. I feel the stock items aren’t cutting it. Also what are some things I can do to get rid of my algae as I am worried they will start taking over my corals. Here are my parameters in the picture below as well as a picture of my tank with the algae. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I want to get this under control now before it’s too late.

What’s your CUC look like? A few emerald crabs would make short work for that. What’s your light cycle? What’s your water change schedule look like? Dosing anything? I have the fluval 5g running right now with a 2.5 sump under it. Just using a hob overflow box to feed it. I’ve been haveing good success so far. You could look into a refugium as well. I believe they have some that fit into the back spaces on that 13.5.

So for my testing of Ammonia, Nirtite, Nitrate, PH and Phospate I am using the API Reef Kit. For magensium I am using the salifert test kit. For the calcium and Alkalinity I am using Hannah tester. I been digging deep into the Filtration in my Fluval and it seems that my stock filter media is useless. I purchased to media baskets to put into chamber 1 and 2. I will build a refugium in chamber 2 as well as add extra filtration in hopes that this helps with the situation.

I currently have a bunch of snails in tank. I am using imagitarium pacific ocean water. It’s easier for me because it’s a nano tank then mixing water.

For filtration, I recommend getting an intank media basket for the first chamber of the filtration back. I run Filterfloss, phosguard, and carbon in the media basket. I am also currently battling a gha outbreak and my Fluval 13.5 is also around 5 months old. I am currently working on making a refugium in the 2nd chamber of the filtration back.

This is exactly what I plan on doing I just ordered the two intake Chambers From intake. chamber one I will have filter floss, chemi pure elite and phosguard and in two plan on more filter floss on top and then have Marine pure bio spheres as well as macro algea. I have a small grow light I am going to attatch to side of tank to help macro algae grow. I am hoping this setup will fix my problems. From all accounts the stock filter and media is no good.
