Good evening to the awesome folks of R2R. Three days ago I noticed an odd looking bump on the “chin” of my cinnamon clown. While he is a jerk and bites me repeatedly every chance he gets, I still love and want the best outcome for him. So please help me figure this out!

Hopefully it’s nothing and he’s just gotten a scrape. I appreciate any and all input and thank you for your time.

What I do know is that the cheek is one of the areas of softest tissue in fish. Post injury is a possibility as is bacterial.
It won’t be until morning but we can see what @Jay Hemdal thinks

That is probably an injury. One other possibility - it seems to be right at the junction of the gills covers. Fish can develop goiter, and the enlarged tissue will emerge at that point. This typically only happens in older fish. There isn’t any treatment for that, iodine additions work when this happens to sharks, but in bony fish it is more related to a tumor.

Thank you for your input. I’m not sure how old he is as he came to me after years in someone else’s tank. Can I add or remove anything in his diet to help him recover?

No - if it is an injury, it is pretty minor and will likely heal on its own. If it is thyroid hyperplasia (goiter) it can’t be resolved, but fish can live with it for some time. Neither issue is a risk to tankmates.
