Kinda regretting doing a floating reef. I havent brought the scape down low enough so there is a lot of negitive space below that can be used.

Not quite a reef yet as I’ve only just started out but I wonder if you could help me out a little. I have a 470 lt (125 USA g) tall slim aquarium and I’m hoping to create some porcelain/ceramic structures for the African cichlids I have in the tank. I saw a lot of floating aquascapes and really do admire them as they have the nice open sand bed underneath the rock work. I was thinking of only scaping half so the fish have plenty of swimming area but because the tank is so tall, I’d like to have hide outs and swim through places. My idea is to buy the raw materials online and fire a large structure made from smaller pieces that would fit into the kiln. Could you please help me out? Thanks for opening this thread it is an amazing idea to give ppl like me provocation and a nudge in the right direction. I’be added the pics I have on my phone because I’m not home yet but when I get home I can take some pics the way you mentioned. Also there are 2 corners I intended them to have graveled because or air stones I placed inside unused bulk heads.

If you need an outside perspective to help with improving your aquascape, just post here a few shots of your tank, and will try my best shot at providing specific advise according to your goals for the tank.

Sometimes I can just answer here, show the alterations using photoshop or make a video.

Just post here front shots with your cellphone/camera positioned at 3 different heights (sand level, centre and water level) and also a couple of angled photos, so that I can have a better understanding of your tank's layout.

This is a subject that is surprisingly not researched by most reefers and I have given some thought and some time ago I did a similar exercise in another forum.

It's also a great way for everyone to learn from each other and see a few freshwater techniques that we can apply and also many others that are specific for reef tanks.

In the meantime, if you want some inspiration here are a few videos I made with suggestions for different tank shapes.

what do you think I could do here?

After finishing a renovation will be setting up a little 3x1x1 ft reef tank 19g . I won a 3 ft light from aquaone in Australia on a instagram comp so going to get there new low profile tank to go with it. I ordered 4 kg of marco rock and had 1kg (on the bottom right) and was worried it would be enough but had some left over. I have some putty left over and thinking of trying to raise the 2 bigger rocks to make cave under bigger . They sit pretty flat at the moment so not sure if needed.

Also between my little pico and nano I have 3 acan, 2 tiny hammers, torch, toadstool leather, 3 Duncan and couple of plating coral. I'm going to put my wavemaker on left and I have a protein Skimmer / filter hang on the will go in back right corner. Where do you think is the best placement for each type of coral

Well it took 7 long days to move the gear, coral, clean it up, mount what I could, dig out the live rock from the old tank and try to aquascape the right side of the tank, mount more corals etc. I still have a lot of coral laying around that I need to rehome or mount somewhere. Here is what it ended up looking like. Fish are going to get treated before entering out of caution. I cant wait to see what it looks like when I can free up the sand bed more.

This is a 20g long, so 30". I just added 10lbs of dry base rock, and the one live rock.
1. Should I secure the rock together? I fiddled with it until they 'clicked together.
2. Should I add more rock?
3. If I add more rock, it'll be live so I can balance out the colors.

I would take some dead rock out and replace that with live, then gleu it together
Your scape looks great to me , i would not add more
You don't have to look at the colour of the rocks , in 4/6 weeks they all will look the same.

54 gallon corner bow-front tank. I drilled the tank for an H2overflow to allow more room for the scape. It was kind of challenging to come up with a aquascape with the shape of the tank. I wanted something fairly open with good water flow around all sides. And also wanted to be able to vacuum around everything. The original two pillars wouldn't work with the space, so I took one out. Everything is drilled and tied together with fiberglass rod. The small rock structure on the front left side was used to add depth. I tried without, and it looked to empty. The whole scape consist of 5 rocks. The back pillar is about 17 inches in height.

I need help drilling/plumbing a 40 gallon corner bowfront. Iv seen many people complain about it being hard to get good flow. How is your plumbing done? Like your overflow, powerheads, placements , etc

Reefer 250 with approximately 45-50 pounds of CaribSea rock. I’m wanting only softies and LPS.

Is this too much rock? I really wanted as many caves and tunnels as possible for reclusive fish and wrasses.

Three pilars are exact the same hight , try to make one higher or lower...
Two left ones is the top exact horizontal as well , you could try to make it look more natural by making it less horizontal

I’m completely brand new to this and absolutely HATE what I’ve done with the rock! It looks hideous. I would love to have your input on what you think I should do. Plan to add coral when the tank is ready.

Hi, my tank was made to be a room divider. It was free and most of my rocks are really large. Any suggestions? Pardon the putty on the rocks. Will try to cover it up later.

My magnifica decided walk into my gyre and nuke most of my livestock so debating if and how I should shift rock around. Would love some
Opinions.
Make 2 islands so that you can see through the tank. I think that will be cool.
