When you drill your Aquarium, use a little bit of 50/50 yellow antifreeze, and plumber’s putty to form a Dam. If you don’t want to buy a gallon, most Service Stations will sell you a 1/2 to one Cup.

I’ve always just used water and the putty, what’s the purpose of the anti freeze?

It’s a better lubricant, and you don’t loose much of the heat transfer.
