So, figured I’d do a quick update on the pistol shrimp situation...

He molted a few days ago, and I finally got the time to get him in the DT. I run my QTs at the same water parameters as my DT, so its a pretty easy transfer.

What I didn’t want to do was just drop him in then watch him scurry off to a cave on the opposite end of the tank from his buddy, the Randall’s Goby, Toby.

So what I did was get a fluorescent bulb protector tube - 1.25” diameter, thin walled clear plastic tube 4’ long - from HD for $4 and cut a little door in one end. Then I placed it down into the tank with the door facing the preferred cave, but pushed under the sand a touch.

Then I sent the shrimp down the tube, and let him sit in front of the cave for a couple minutes until Toby popped his head out and they saw each other. Slowly retracted the tube, revealing the door- and shrimpy just swam right into the cave.

He then proceeded to quickly dig out a rear entrance to the cave, and blocked up the front door- so now Toby is using the hidden entrance and I don’t get my views anymore.

Plus, after that first couple hours- Randal is now MIA, and no new sand piles anywhere.

lol. I used to get so mad at my husband for cutting our bushes down too much. But then I started trimming bushes...you can’t help it. They get uneven, then one side has too much shaved off. Next thing you know the bush is a little nub. LOL. same thing happens with the power washer.

Lol, yeah.

But this was an intentional removal- that window behind the left bush is to the office, and the natural light sucks, and a couple times my wife has been surprised by solicitors suddenly appearing. Then, a couple weeks ago, a neighbour in the hood caught a guy hiding behind his very similar bush when he came home one day. So now we are clearing the bigger bushes from the front of the house and putting up Ring doorbell and security lights.

Also- I’ve always considered them hideous, and it gave me an excuse to buy a chainsaw, lol.

Lol

I literally bought the least expensive electric one HD had, because it was only $3 more than a 4-hour rental .

It did the job, and I still have all 9 fingers, so it’s all good.

More money for add-one for my toro that arrives tomorrow

The ‘Nashville’ mower, since it was adequate for our postage stamp sized yard...

But a bigger yard, needs a bigger mower

I just went from 5.5 hours in the Atlanta humidity, to 27 minutes...

I’ve got another 10-15 days before I start gettin to it! Soil temp still a little low for my taste

IMG_1873.jpg

Looks like April 10th is my “throw’er down” day as temps start creeping to 55oF. In the mean time, I’ve got plenty to do. Rake, aerate, sharpen blades and service the tractor. Super friggen excited as I plan on seriously dominating the neighborhood this year. I’m WAY ahead of the crabgrass this year, too. Spot sprayed like crazy since I skipped pre emergent last spring to over seed in spring and fall. This spring is a different ball game, though.

Absolutely! 55F is where you want the first application of pre emergent to combat crab grass and again at 70F. I have something I can send you that has helped me Understand what’s going on in my soil and why I’m doin what I’m doing. PM me your email and I’ll send it over

I was going to skip pre-emergent because I’m going to overseed for a season or two to bulk thing up. Spot zapping the crabgrass and putting down ‘weed n feed’ for now.

Thanks man !!

If you haven’t put down weed n feed I wouldn’t put it down. A lot of that stuff has a chemical fertilizer with plus the “weed” part of it is essentially a pre emergent. That would render your grass seed useless for a few months. If you plan on over seeding, throw down starter fertilizer after seeding and irrigate, irrigate, irrigate. Same in the fall. You’re going to have to be religious about walking your lawn and spot spraying, though.

Questioning my manliness

59196c569ec1672fdb4f83a64f1bbab8.jpg

Lol, dude

You know how when you buy a new chainsaw, and everything looks like it needs chopped down? I bought it to get rid of two specific bushes.

Our yard is now -7 for bushes and trees...

5 more hours in the yard today. This Georgia spring is only going to last another 3 weeks before it hits 85oF and 300% humidity, so making the most of it

Oh I know exactly what you mean. I’m eyeing a few trees in the back yard! Lol.
