Top down in the store. 14” light height, 100% blues, mars aqua 165w.

I got the lower two.

I have a 165 viparspectra at 18”, but I run 20% whites for a couple hours in the day. Same as DT. Makes transfer acclimation easier to manage. I’ll need to offset them to the side a little to compensate, being that they are a low light coral.

Wow! Really nice coral.

What type of coral is this? I wouldn't mind something similar for my tank down the road. I'm still relatively new to the saltwater hobby so I'm not sure if this is maybe a torch coral?? I could be way off...

These are Fungia plate corals. Also known as ‘Pinwheel coral’. Short tentacles version, should get up to around 1-1.25” long tentacles.

Solitary LPS. Low medium light, bottom/sand, low flow. Likes to eat a meaty chunk every 2-3 weeks

There’s a long tentacle version that is around 5-6” extension. Awesome, but a bit out of my price range for now

Come in all sorts of colors, red, yellow, orange, blue, purple, green.

Just caught this little hell-spawn crawling all over my GSP. He’s been living inside of a rolled up piece of GSP mat hanging off the side of the main colony. I ducked him out with some rigid airline and a 20ml syringe. He got a little mashed up on the ride

Gnarly looking. I’m so happy to say I haven’t seen one of these in any of my tanks yet.

I’m taking my 40g Refugio’s section offline for a little while.

3 reasons:

1:It’s a bit of a detritus sink, and with no cuc it gets dirty. Also, my nutrient levels don’t currently support chaeto, so while the extra water volume is good for stability, it sucks in terms of function

2: reducing system volume lets me treat the cyano with less dr Tim’s waste away. Less watercolor change volume needed.

3: I need a dry clean space to build out my macroalge display fuge!

I’m currently running the flow back to the old skimmer chamber pre-return pump. Because I didn’t calibrate what pump setting I needdd to reduce it to when I closed the manifold valve. Without adjusting the pump, that extra 400gph goes upstairs, and if a drop hits the floor, my wife will murder me. I do have the secondary and emergency available to take the flow, but I’d rather not use the redundancies if it’s offline for 2-3 weeks which is the current schedule

Thoughts?

Just getting caught up on your build, kinda. Have you considered a pyramid butterfly? Reef safe and very nice fish.

Nice fish, good suggestion. I don’t like the blank white though. I have a few monotone fish already and would like something with some Picasso in its coloration/ pattern

I know that’s a new parameter, but hey, I’m complicated, what can I say?

So- I’ve been chasing a pulsing BA since the power cut. I thought I had it dialed in again (no idea why it needed tweaking) but I just got a surge. So I opened up the gate valve 1/4 turn AND ITS FULLY OPEN!!!

So- the pump setting that was awesome pre- power cut is now too high and giving me too much flow. I need to dial it back, while closing the gate valve until it all equilibriates.

Uhh, tedium.

I had to do that after my bulkhead fracture and fried electrics a few months ago, I have 2 sets of drains and returns, I hate re-balancing it!

I don’t understand it that though- all that happened was a normal pump power off situation- just 3 hours, you know?

I do see that im going to have to add anothe gate valve on my settling tank. It’s a wide open 1” siphon, but in theory it will run more efficiently if it’s gated to the same proportion as the incoming BA main drain. I’m going to add that after I add my filter tube doohickey.

I’m also thinking I might get rid of the return manifold and use a pump to feed the fuge and cryptic sponge tank. It’s not like you can tune any downstream partitions without affecting the main flow upstairs and therefore down the ba drain. Unless I add a T and a valve to divert it immediately back into the return chamber and just turn it before I close off the fuge. So that’s another valve...

Ages ago lol, I have no idea how to find posts.
I love the idea of manifolds but with their own pump, my returns are my returns, I don't need to add more variables, kiss! ;)

So, 40g fuge section diverted and drained, 35 gallons NSW replaced (15% WC at the new volume) cyano snot bubble towers and a bunch of Chrysophytes siphoned off.

Running my floss reactor overnight, then it’s in with 110ml of Dr Tim’s waste away. Half dose of the calculated 220g current system volume.

DT Tim’s x 110ml dosed at 12.30. Skimmer off.

Let’s see how it goes.

Also- my coral QT is super cloudy. Bacterial explosion. Thinking of letting it burn itself out. Or should I WC?

:(:(:(

I was testing my apex connectivity issue and my return pump, which has a fallback ON condition, turned off when the head unit reconnected.

I wouldn’t have minded except when I looked a atbthe rank, one of maybe perculas came shooting outs the return pipe. He’d been sucked half way down to the sump and is a mess.

I’m so upset.

Why can’t **** just work the way it’s a supposed to work

Anyway- scooped him out and hes now in a 10g hospital tank. Currently in the fish health forum asking for treatment options. I guess at this point it’s just a matter of preventing bacterial infection and making him as comfortable as possible

Right eyeball completely out, and red
Dorsal fin completely shredded
Multiple little contusions
Listing to side and weak swimming
