Just got done setting up my relocated 180, after a house move. This thread will document the ongoing build of the tank, plus the conversion of a basement storage area to a fishroom and separate QT and ‘fish-lab’

Was like this-

Two weeks later, now it’s like this-

Crazy couple weeks ahead but will update with a full plan once I get time- just moved, kid on the way, 2 under 5’s home full time

Old thread-

Looking good!
It’s a start.

Sump layout will be the same as my old fishroom. I can include the sink and water station in the fishroom this time too- went from 8x10 to 14x14 plus an additional 12x14. That smaller room will be QT, observation and my ‘science-bench’ (I’m a former academic scientist and *need* my microscope and test kits etc)

I have plans for a 350 g peninsula upgrade once we blow out a living room wall, so I’m planning with that in mind. The main sump - a 125 gallon- will be replaced by a Rubbermaid 100g , and the 125 will have baffles removed and used as a predator tank in my wife’s home office- also plumbed into sump.

thanks for looking!

Nice...You can never have to much room. I’ve managed to take up all my fish room space and more. We have a habit of adding more tanks in this hobby. I had a few separate tanks that I’ve taken down. I’ve added two more 6x2x1 90s back but with everything plumbed together. It’s so much easier to maintain. I’m currently at a 245 SPS, 90 SPS grow out, 90 LPS, Zoas, Shrooms. I have one more 90 to put online. I’m just giving it some time in between adding tanks to the system. Are you pluming them all together?

Oh, yeah- plumbed together for sure!

one set of tests, one dosing schedule, consistency across the board.

plans for the tanks in the house will be :

350 gallon 8’x 36”x 24” peninsula
180 6’x2’x2’. (Current tank)
125g predator FOWLR
40g display planted macro tank
50g lowboy shallow mangrove lagoon
50g lowboy frag tank in fishroom

all will be plumbed to the main shared sump, other than the shallow lagoon. It’s location will make this impossible, but I’m going to plumb this in-line with the AWC for the main tank. The old water coming out of the sump will go to the lagoon, 3-5 gallons per day, and the ‘overflow’ volume from the lagoon will go straight to drain.

so 5 tanks on a shared sump and filtration and one will be in the AWC waste loop.

I have sooooooo much GSP in my frag tank now- around 2 square feet. So I trimmed back some of the more ‘Inconvenient’ growth, and glued it to the overflow box. Trying something new. I will need to get another light specifically for the side panel, since I’m running LEDs with 120 degree spread at 8”, so I get very little illumination on the side panels. Since I intend to do the whole glass with 3-4 types of cyphastrea, that doesn’t need to be super bright but is required

Yep- the tank and new fishroom are at the new house- but I’m in st George island in Florida for a week so the tank has been in remote mode since last friday

we have plans to knock down a wall dividing our living room and kitchen, and put a 400g, 8 foot long peninsula as a partial divider. Estimating 12-18 months on that, since we have a baby boy coming July 4.

the current 180 will be kept where it is, then the 125 I currently use as a sump will be replaced with a Rubbermaid livestock trough and become a FOWLR with puffers in my wife’s office.

The tanks did great during the week away.

I did lose a head in my torch, but the main head is much more flowy than it’s previously been, so it’s a wash.

CJ has rediscover the nems and has been hanging out in the one front and center

And my little purple tip hammer is finally extending and flowing in the current. This is the most extended it’s been in the 2 years I’ve had it

Ok- so here’s the deal- baby #3 arrives in 6 weeks, and in that time I have to hang some plywood on a stud wall in the qt area, and get some fish into Hybrid TTM. If I can get them into observation before baby comes, I’ll be happy. Not sure what yet. But trending towards a Midas blenny, a yellow coris wrasse and some springers damsels.

and I’m planning on getting a few more mollies to acclimate and then maybe a dozen or so corals. Mix of lps and euphilia , and maybe 3-4 SPS. I’ll be dipping then doing mollie canary QT for the corals.

Two almost BRAND NEW 55g barrels, manufactured in March 15, 2021. Used 1 time. Pristine, $20 each.

these will become the saltwater side of my upgraded water change station, that I’ll complete next weekend. 110 gallons rodi, 110 gallons salt, on hand, so I can do 3g AWC daily

the stand was made from all reclaimed old fishroom framing lumber, and is for the lowboy in the fishroom.

I have still to add some simple shelves to hold 3 20gallon totes on one end (pvc parts, spare equipment etc) and the other end will have enough room for the ATO until I can get it plumbed in (10g tank) and once plumbed, and no longer requiring an ATO, it’ll be enough room to store my 30g brute and my many many buckets

Stand painted, with the air sprayer. That thing is awesome.

i don’t have space for 2 totes, so I’m not going to get fancy adding shelves to hold them. But this does give me space for a 7” deep drawer, so I’m going to add some runners and make the drawer later.
