Washington beaches to see a ton: Second Beach, Shi Shi, nearly anyone with close-in haystacks/tidepools.

I have a bunch of pics from those beaches somewhere, if I can find them, I'll post some.

Please do post pics! I love tidepools!

Was really surprised to these nems out of the water during low tide.

I used to see those when I lived in San Diego. LaJolla tide pools and also down by Point Loma I believe.

Is it still very illegal to take anything out of the ocean there?
There are some areas not in the MPA that you can collect from tidepools with a sport fishing license but a lot of areas are still very illegal.

I used to catch little crabs and throw them in to those when I was a kid growing up in San Francisco. They had no chance in the dinner plate sized ones, super sticky.

These are all old, 2009, back when digital SLRs only had like 8MP.

All are from the tidepools at Shi Shi Beach in far NW Washington State.

I love cold water sea-life, I'd love to have a cold water tank of some sort, if were easy to find livestock that is...

Interesting enough you can collect but it has to be outside state and federal parks and reserves. Active diver here and some of the best diving in the world is in Monterey. As already noted the waters are colder with surface temps in the 54 - 61'ish range with 47 - 49 at depth (ranging from 45 - 115 feet).

Snails, shells, and hermits are not uncommon to take as is 50 gallons of NSW. I do not remove any of the 'nems, starfish, etc due to water temperature. In fact unless you are in the Southern part of the state not really much you can keep due to the more colder waters up North.

Cold water tank sounds fun until you consider you'll probably need a good chiller running most of the day/night to keep it in range (at least with Cali temps). Cool pics, was even cooler to see the NorCal nems. I used to go to CC a LOT about a decade and half ago :). Back when they had the car shows on Saturday mornings :D
