Good guy or bad guy? I have this neon green hitchhiker who came in on some new live rock and has been multiplying like crazy all over my tank. If touched they retract like aiptasia. Can anyone ID it? Is it going to spread and just be a free beautiful flower popping up All over or will it sting everything in sight?

Looks more like paly than a majano.

Majano tents are different than how those look. But they don’t quite look like palys either. The tentacles on a majano are not inline around the disk. They are staggered and in rows.

There are different types of nems in the same family, like tons of them, and it gets very hard to ID them without seeing the column, underside of the disk and the foot.

Here is a normal majano for reference. See how the tentacles are staggered as they go around the disk.

I just used aiptasiaX to eradicate 3 majano on the same rock. The Majanos looked totally different. Two of them looked exactly like the photo Eagle Steve sent, had a foot to move around, and pulled up into cocoons at night like my RBTAs while the 3rd also looked like eagle Steve’s photo but had a column more like an aiptasia. These other neon green paly looking guys in the photo look completely different. They do have a column and retract quickly when touched.

not a great photo but here’s a side by side of the majano (now dead) and the other item in question. The majano moved. These other guys just multiple and are popping up all over the tank in random places.

I’ll add that the reproduction appears to be in random spots. Sometimes located singularly while at other times in a group of 2-3. They’re not clustering like my zoas or palys.

They are palys, I’ve seen them sold generically as ‘button polyps’. They’re fairly common live rock hitchhiker.
