This is crazy to me. Any discontinued product should have several years of continued support. They should be offering new lights (radions it seems) for free to verified purchasers

Could it be due to noise from Phillips since he literally said it was same design as Phillips?

Seeing those next to Radion the color seemed better but build quality seemed not as good.

Ive been in contact with Fixreef, he states he can repair them. Im nervous because I currently have a somewhat working Sky, and dont want to end up with a non working one, and then have to make a move. Im also concerned with tanks lighting, while i send it in for repair.... NOT IDEAL

Lol - are you being serious? Since the SKY's development and launch a lot has happened ranging from COVID to mergers.

As a SKY owner, and fellow hobbyist, I understand the frustration but we need to be realistic.

The SKY is not "literally" the same as the Phillips. Gen 2 is more natural spectrum, passive cooling, different power supply placement, etc. Maybe what you mean is that their light of choice for design was the Gen 1 Phillips kit.

Gen 2's may not be around much longer as well. We have not heard anything from CV or Phillips lately and CV launched a different product of their own.

Gen 2s aren't going anywhere from what I've been told. The new Hydros lights are similar but still offer a diff option.

Good to know. I had reached out to CV asking about them or if there are any plans on a Gen 3 and they said no. It is a light I'm considering as a replacement to SKY's in the advent of being discontinued. Maybe I read too much into their response.

Just repeating what I heard the owner say when Neptune came out. Was the Phillips Care 2.

For what is worth, I too have come to this same conclusion. I have 2 skys, one that half the blues have failed on it. I contacted support back in March 2024 and was told its a hardware issue, but they have not received parts to repair them in over 6 months (late 2023). They offered the Radion discount as previously seen. I then called into support and talked to different reps that said the same. We are currently not repairing them due to no parts to repair, we can add you to a wait list, if we get parts, but HIGHLY suggest moving to a different light. Here in July 2024, Im still using the broken light hoping I could find someone to repair it.
Send the light to reaffix usually about 150. he has the parts and can do .

I did recently send it in to fixreef. I waited due to summer vacations, then got laid off from work, so had the time to remove it from the tank and send in. He said its been repaired, waiting on return delivery. Fingers crossed going on 6 days limping along on one Sky. Yep $150 plus $25 in return shipping.

So I tossed the question out at the RaP booth and they said the SKY has been discontinued along with the WAV. Apparently, the sales volume for both compared to the Radion and Vortech wasn’t sufficient to keep them in production so they got cut. I’m sure that the margins were worse on both too but they couldn’t confirm that.

They did say that they were keeping enough stock of parts to repair what’s out there but that will die off as warranties expire. No point is keeping parts for discontinued lights out of warranty that they’re not obligated to fix.

Thanks for reporting back. When one looks at the consolidation it makes business sense. From an owners perspective it is a bit of a buzz kill. Especially if one is planning on an upgrade and needed more. Having said that there are some other options at a different price point that perform equally well so not all is lost.

Thanks again and glad they answered the question.

That is unfortunate. Would be nice if MP40s could be powered and controlled via 1link. I was really excited when 1link was launched but now it looks like COR-15 and Trident are the only products that support it.

Looks to me that unless Neptune revamps their system, Hydros will saturate the market with their idea of tank control.

Glad they responded to you but very unhappy with the news. I kept hoping it was just a supply issue.

I have two unopened SKY's waiting for a new canopy to arrive next month that were bought last November in Black Friday sale. Plus a third one that's been on my tank since January replacing a blown metal halide 20 year old fixture.

I also have multiple WAVs since they have thin magnets that will fit behind my tank. Tank is too close to the wall due to mistake I made 20 years ago when setting tank up. Vortechs won't fit in the space I have without blocking a viewing frame. I only can view the tank from two sides now so viewing space is at a premium.

Been an Apex user for 15+ years and very highly invested with many modules so very disappointed.

It is unfortunate. From the perspective that these 2 brands are different and to have the option to choose wav or vortech should be an option.

I wouldn't say the same for the sky though. Rhe reason is that that one hasn't been out long enough to get the notoriety that the wav has.

But, reality seems to favor the concept that neptune is going to focus on controller and ecotech/ai will handle the output devices.

Along those same lines, I wonder how they will address mobius??

Not shocked in the least. There is far too much overlap in the Aperture portfolio at this point. I wouldn’t be shocked to see further consolidation of product lines as PE continues the profitability push

Design change. At some point the controller will be updated, or should, and interoperability will be factored into the design. If for some reason they do not have that on the roadmap then they can at least enforce connectivity through Neptune's IOTA.

Kessil and Sicce have integrated with Neptune's controller with this method and it is a huge quality of life improvement for the hobbyist. At least in my experience. It may not reduce some of the drivers or be as pretty as a solution but at least control from a single app would be possible.

Good to hear from you - hope you are well.
