I had an acrylic tank and there are some advantages like weight and insulating properties but that being said I will NEVER buy another acrylic tank. Way to hard to keep clean and too easy to scratch

Would you pick Acrylic over glass?
I'm clumsy and wouldn't trust myself to not scratch the acrylic. Then my OCD would kick in and I'd break it down to buff it out.

I would choose acrylic.

It's WAY to easy to drop one of those big tanks, or for it to crack.

The scratches would drive me crazy though. But I would rather have a scratched tank, than a pile of glass. Just sayin'... :)

Glass. Acrylic scratches would just ruin it for me once we are hitting the prime years of a reef tank (5+). By then you will have scratches that you will see everytime you look and if you were me, would begin to neglect the tank by avoiding it to stop seeing the scratches.

I had a 120 gal acrylic that had a few scratches that really bugged me, but I was new to it and didn't take the proper precautions. I think it's doable, maybe even desirable, if you are careful and take care of it. Just know that you need to be cautious when scraping.

A 2 yr old, and a doberman... I pick Glass. They are always up close. My son draws on the glass, runs his hot wheels around the tank when I'm not looking, my dog tries to catch the fish. Imagine the scratches.
Pick what fits your life style.

I’m voting for glass. It will serve you better in the long run. We all know you have to be extra careful with acrylic. Over time things happen. Things happen with glass as well, just not as quick and so easily. Look at some YouTube videos of some of the big name guys. From what I have seen the majority of them have glass tanks. I imagine they all have glass from experience.

Acrylic has advantages its lighter, clearer, stronger, and if it does scratch it can be repaired. However if you do go with glass make sure it is low iron glass. Good luck, I went through the same struggle with my 240g (8x2x2). I went with an Advanced Acrylics Tank and couldn't be happier , build quality and service was beyond my expectations.

To set a 240 he will need at least 4 guys with those suction handles and a good plan. I would buy from an LFS and then they would be best to help install.
