I gave the third dose of the frozen/thawed Ruby Reef rally today. 1 more day of Poly Lab Medic to do and then that’s it.

I have more hope than I did, but don’t want to jinx it. The kole tang is eating well and better at catching food than before. He seems overall better.

I hope he makes it. That would be such a nice present. :)

Fish is still going. He is now almost as much of a pig as my last tang was. But he still has ich, despite the continuous use of Polyp Lab Medic, the 3 days of the frozen/thawed Ruby Reef rally pro and the abundant feeding.

He goes to the cleaning shrimp for a clean but she’s eating so much from all my feedings to help the tang that she has no interest. I wish she did.

So I installed my UV to at least decrease the ich population to help the fish build immunity. He has started having tiny round purple spots that show thrown his skin. I don’t know what they are but the previous tang that died had them, only more like lines that tiny dots.

Still not sure he’s going to make it.

The tang looks pretty good other than the discolored areas, I keep coming back to that unknown “thumbprint” disease…

What do you think about the ich ? It’s been going on for about 10 days now. Is he going to be able to fight it you think ?

This fingerprint disease seems to vanish by itself quickly. So I’m okay with it if that’s what it is. :)

Sorry - I couldn’t see the ich in the video on my phone.

@Jay Hemdal here is another picture. I penciled in the darker spots showing throught the skin of the fish, because the picture wasn’t clear enough to show it.

DEE49D27-CC94-47AB-8A75-D378E548A543.jpeg

These spots are very visible where I marked them, but they also appear on the body of a fish, but more like tiny little lines, or veins. The fish is also covered in little dust, for lack of better word. Two other fish are fine; they already survived the first disease episode that killed everyone but them.

Now here’s my dilemma. I have 1 ounce of Prazipro only (paid 31$ for that) which gives me 2 doses at 85% the recommended dose. From what I read it should be good to treat my display (75 gallons).

But this might hurt my newly acquired anemone so I am very hesitant to try it if it’s not going to help this fish be healthy. It honestly looks like the same disease that killed my first tang and 4 of its tank mates.

I know you can’t tell me what to do, but maybe you can tell me what not to do, lol ?

Thanks

Prazipro won’t harm the anemone as long as it is healthy to begin with and you add supplemental aeration.

Update : 2 days after dosing the prazipro, the dark spots on the fins (mostly) of the kole tang have mostly disappeared.

Yesterday, about 28 hours after dosing Prazipro, I decided to turn the UV back on because the poor fish was covered in dust. Today this is a little better but the fish is still covered in a light coat of dust.

He’s eating well, 4 times a day, and pooping a lot. I wasn’t sure about dosing a second time but I think I should or else I will blame myself for not having tried everything if he doesn’t make It.

It has been 16 days now since I got the fish.

The fish is still eating very well but I have very little hope.

It started hiding a little bit a few days ago. Last night it started swimming erratically after the lights were out and today it’s swimming at the top of the tank often. It has stayed in front of a return a while also.

I asked in three reefing groups if someone could take him and treat him in a hospital tank with copper. I doubt I will find someone as we don’t use meds very much In Canada. Access to them is forbidden by law. :-(

I don’t think copper will help in this case - protozoan infections have a relatively rapid onset and this fish is still eating well. By the process of elimination, that tends to rule out protozoans.

I see tiny white spots and dust on him though. Isn’t that a proof of ich ?

Ich seems to be getting better; there are less and less grain salts on the fish.

But whatever else is in there is making the fish worse. The symptoms are similar to what the first tang had : 2-3 light colored round spots, small dark veins that appear under the fish skin and swimming at the top of the tank, head lower than the body (you can see this behavior around 1:00 in the video).

Is this how the tank should look after adding the Ruby Reef rally pro ? I decided to give it a shot after giving it time to thaw, since I don’t have a plan B.

Unfortunately lights are very blue and video very fuzzy.
To alleviate shimmer from lights, please post a couple of still pics under white lighting.

@vetteguy53081 I just took pictures under white lights but there are millions of dust like particles in the tank (no idea why, never seen that before) so it’s almost impossible to actually see the ich because of it.

Here are some pictures anyways :

I can see what appears like a series of dot especially on tail and mid -body area
Recourse with any parasite will be a need to set up a quarantine tank. Treat with Coppersafe or Copper Power at therapeutic level 2.25-2.5 For a FULL 30 days (do not interrupt this 30 day period) monitored by a reliable Copper Test kit such as Hanna Brand- No API brand. Also monitor Ammonia levels while in quarantine with a reliable test kit and add aeration during treatment using an air stone.
The display tank may have to be kept fishless (FALLOW) for 6-8 weeks to assure the existing parasites go through their life cycle without a host fish and die off and that the other fish have not contracted ich also
A quarantine tank can be as simple as a starter kit from Walmart which most of the needed essentials.

I have other tanks that I could set up, but honestly I don’t think he will survive copper. By the time I order it it will be at least 2-3 days.

I’ve been medicating him will all sorts of things for 3 weeks now and everything has failed. Maybe I should have tried copper from the start but I saw no way of catching this fish. It is what it is. :-(

Other option is hyposalinity at 1.009 with added oxygen via airstone

Does that work for velvet ? I’m changing my mind and think he has velvet. It’s swimming in the flow a lot.
Above all the meds you tried, this needs to be verified. This fish is obviously under stress and Hypo will work as will ruby Rally pro which is reef safe and will turn water green
