I’m trying to decide between 2 tank sizes. 48x48x12 and a custom 60x24x16 or 18 from glass cages. Could you all give me pros and cons?

IMO unless you’re planing on doing more of a frat tank the 12” height wouldn’t make for a nice display. I’d go with the 60x24x16 or 18 as this will give you lots of options for fish and rock scape!

Longer is always better (as long as it is wide enough also - which yours is) if you are going to have fish...

12” high is kind of low for fish. In tha other hand 48x48x24h would be awesome and then again depends on the location of the tank

Is this going to be a display tank or frag tank?

If display tank , I would definitely go with the 16" high option as you will have a bigger display to enjoy. I would go with 18" high if you have the option, even 16" is a little shallow for a display tank imo. You will also be able to have taller rock structures, and more length/height for the fish to swim.

If using as a frag tank I would go with the 12" high option, as you will be able to fit more frags with a bigger footprint. You will be limited in how many/type of fish you can keep long term with this option.

Really depends on how you intend to use the tank.

It’s going to be display that I’m going plumb a frag tank to.
