Hermit crabs are tough little buggers. And if the increase in salinity wasnt too drastic, they would just acclimate. Marine life adapts very quickly to different parameters (compared to other land based life)

I would say 10ppm higher salinity is pretty drastic lol.Hermit crabs are tough little buggers. And if the increase in salinity wasnt too drastic, they would just acclimate. Marine life adapts very quickly to different parameters (compared to other land based life)
I have figured out the problem the refractometer needed to be calibrated with calibration fluid not distilled water. And once that was done it was reading 1.035 lol.Calcium is high
But I have had new zoas close up for several days when added to my tank then they open up and are fine after that. Give it a few days.
By drastic change I mean a sudden or instantaneous increase in salinity. Chances are you increased your salinity slow enough to not bother what was already in the tank.I would say 10ppm higher salinity is pretty drastic lol.
Yeah brix % is used to measure sugar or sucralose contentThis is what the one I have looks like.
Lol I am a moron. When I bought the refractometer I didn't know it had to be specifically for salinity.Yeah brix % is used to measure sugar or sucralose content
Hopefully everything will be fine intill I get the new refractometer. Yet another lesson learned lol.Brix can be roughly translated to saltwater units.
~4.4 youwill be around 35ppt. But these are not meant for this and the error percentage could be unacceptable.
I did the same exact thing when I first got into the hobby. I ordered one for measuring wine and coffee [emoji849][emoji1787]Hopefully everything will be fine intill I get the new refractometer. Yet another lesson learned lol.
Yep,I have been in the hobby for awhile but I always had used a hydrometer. This was my first refractometer.I did the same exact thing when I first got into the hobby. I ordered one for measuring wine and coffee [emoji849][emoji1787]
Well don't let it get you down!Yep,I have been in the hobby for awhile but I always had used a hydrometer. This was my first refractometer.
I will definitely eventually get one of those.Well don't let it get you down!
You might even go further and get something like this: https://www.saltwateraquarium.com/h...JXo1pbU5I3rATR-5trM1PLND017bjd2gaAiizEALw_wcB
It removed really any doubts I had about using a refractometer. I still use one, but usually just to double check if my meter is calibrated.
I’m so tempted to sell my Milwaukee refractometer and get one of those. Imagine how easy testing would be! I’d do it every day just for fun.Well don't let it get you down!
