Hi all I have a new fluval evo, it has cycled for around 6-7 weeks now but I am starting to get quite a lot of green algae. I have reduced my lighting to try eliviate this but it doesn't seem to work. I have heard of people removing the rock and scrubbing with peroxide but I'm not a fan of doing this.

Sounds perfectly normal... What are your nitrates and phosphate levels?

Keep feeding to a minimum and make sure you have correct amount of Clean up crew. A couple of Astrea snails etc...

Do your Weekly 10% water changes and everything should balance out in a few months.

And don't remove the rock and peroxide everything... the rock/aquarium needs to mature. This just takes time. Hopefully in a few months the rock will be covered in Coral and coraline algae.

Thank you all for the response, my nitrites are quite low and I haven't got a phosphate twat yet so I cannot tell you, I have been advised by my lfs to dose bacteria then on the 4th week do a 20% water change and then each week 20%chamge again. I've had a tropical tank for 2 years so I'm hoping I can stem some knowledge from that side of my fish keeping hobby.

Sadly the uglies are something all new tanks go through. Keeping the lighting down and holding off on adding corals can minimize it. Keep up with water changes as you already are and let nature do it’s thing :)

Glad I held off, have just been cleaning the glass, got 2 turbo snails and the algae seems to be manageable. Checked my levels today and my phosphates were slightly high, nitrates were in the middleground so I did a small 5 litre water change.
