Hello everyone,

I thought I would start a thread on my new Fluval Flex. I have actually been into reef tanks for 10+ years, but took a break for about 2 years. So, to get started I wanted to try something a little smaller (I had 180 G reef, but converted it to a discus tank), and went with the Fluval Flex. It currently has 20 lbs of sand, and 25 lbs of dry reef rock. I did switch the pump out for the mighty-jet DC. The light is the Fluval Sea that came with it. It has been up and running now for two weeks with the light off, to minimize the brown algae growth.

The water parameters are:
Temp 78 - 80 F
Salinity 35 ppt

Nice! Welcome to the fluval flex club :D
Are you planning to use it as an AIO or you will plumb it to a sump? Also will you keep the lid?

Yes, the goal is to keep it as an AIO, I may add a small protein skimmer to it in the near future.
As for the lid, yes, I plan on keeping it too. I have modified it slightly though, by drilling 1/4 in holes (I made a template from a piece of wood first, then gently clamped it on the lid to drill them) on the back left and right corners to help with heat escape.
