hello everyone im fairly new to the hobby i have a 40g breeder but i have a spare 10 g tank i was thinking of making into a frag tank. would this be to small. also would a hob filter be enought for water flow and filtration untill i get my sump hooked up( when sump is hooked up i plan on having my frag tank be apart of the system).

It will work, but that is very small. I use a 20g long as a coral quarantine tank with only a hob filter. It gets pretty dirty, but I'm only messing with softies and lps so they don't mind it.
