Welcome, and you are not alone here. I have a neurological disorder that forces my eyes closed (although I have great vision). It is very painful, frustrating, and disheartening but we push on. The worst is trying to evaluate fish health and or coral pests without being able to see properly. Medical marijuana helps[emoji16].

Thanks for sharing. Vision problems are frustrating.

Hello! My husband has retinitis pigmentosa and we are starting our first reef tank, so there are at least 2 blind reefers in the world!

Do you have any tips so far? My husband has no vision. He can tell if the lights are on or off, but that’s it.

Have either acquaintance or pet store set the light settings for you
Or place them on a household timer if you don’t utilize a controller

We have them on a timed cycle with the app. I was more trying to give an example of my husbands impairment to the original poster.

I'm diving back into reefing after a long hiatus. I've been reefing since the late 90's but took a long break when I lost most of my eyesight. I'm not completely blind, but legally blind. I still see light, color, shapes, etc. It may sound crazy to build a reef you can barely see, but there's more to reefing than what you can see!

A lot has changed in reefing so I'm here to learn! I'm a retired Chemistry and Biology teacher who grew up in Monterey Bay (now living in the beautiful mountains of East, TN) so I suppose there's just saltwater running through my veins. You can take the girl out of the ocean, but you can't take the ocean out of the girl!
