Sharing my journey with a brand new H. Magnifica from @gig 'em. It's beautiful, but a bit ticked off from the shipping.

If you don't know, @gig 'em treats all his Magnificas to full health. I reached out to see if he had any, and he did! Expertly packaged and shipped super fast (probably got to my hands from him in less than 15 hours).

Given this guy has been healthy in a tank for awhile, I don't think I'll need to treat with cipro, and will just need him to be acclimated to the tank well. For now I'm going to keep him in a QT until sunset.

I have Cipro on hand, and ready for full treatment if needed. I'm hoping this thread will be a quick and easy one.

Drip acclimating, showing guts. What would you score this @Amoo @OrionN ? :

In summary, next steps:
  1. Finish 1 hour drip acclimation
  2. Change DT water out and put into QT tank
  3. Remove mag from acclimation container and put into QT tank and observe for 6 hours
  4. Score the mag at that point and then dose cipro if needed, otherwise put into DT
QT Tank setup:
  1. Display tank water
  2. MJ400 with plenty of screening in the inlet
  3. Heater
  4. No light, but right next to my display tank, 1.5 feet off the floor.

After 2 hours of drip acclimation, I put him in a breeder box into the DT instead of the QT.

I decided to lessen the potential stress of going into QT, then DT at some point. And he doesn't seem to be spilling guts and is getting better, so DT in a box it is. I was worried the clowns would dive bomb it if I put it on the rock, because they're already being "hosted" by the rock ever since I put it in (dumb dumbs).

Currently looking 50% better, especially now that it's in a running tank.

Mouth is starting to tighten back up. No excretions of any kind. He seems to be holding on tight to the bottom of the box now.

Is it getting any flow in that box? Make sure it gets a lot.

I moved the box in front of the gyre and return, so it's getting a lot more flow over the top. Somehow a clown got in lol. I chased him out with a net.

The rest of them are trying to get in! Leave this guy alone people.

Mouth is probably 60% better than when it first arrived. It improved quickly, now not so much. Still waiting until 8pm (5 more hours) before deciding if he should go into TT for cipro.

There's flow, not a TON, but enough to push his tentacles around. Should I be exposing him to a lot more?

Hard to explain but yes they like a lot of flow. I would think it would have inflated by now?? @Amoo

OK, mouth is starting to go back in. There's a weird black dead looking tentacle or something near the mouth. Should I remove that?

Here's my setup that allows flow in, but tries to keep the clowns out:

So happy it arrived alive for you! I'm a little surprised it hasn't inflated more at this point, I was fully expecting it to bounce back after getting into some cycled and oxygenated tank water. That black tentacle looking material is most likely zooxanthellae that it is expelling as a stress response. Go ahead and remove it if you can easily do that without injuring the anemone. Hopefully it will look better in the morning, I still wouldn't recommend jumping to antibiotic treatment at this point. Keep us informed on the progress [emoji106]

Good news! As of 23:45 pacific, he is twice as inflated, tentacles inflated quite a bit, and mouth is almost totally closed up now! He's a bit too big for this box now, but I'll move him onto the pedestal in the morning if his mouth is totally closed up and fully inflated. The ocellaris are so excited to get in there (one already got in twice, geeze).

What a huge improvement over the last few hours.

What would be the best way to pull him out of the box? He's holding on SUPER tight now (I tried to move him to the center of the box, he wouldn't budge). Ice cube?

I use a credit card to gently wedge underneath his foot and peel it off. Looking a lot better! Interested to see what it looks like this morning.

Gig'em is a legit magnifica whisperer. He can make any sad magnifica smile again. He saved my sunburst from a terrible demise a couple years ago. Definitely an anemone expert! You got that anemone from a good source!

Lights are still off, but he’s super inflated now!! I’ll check on him a bit later and will probably transfer him to the pedestal if his mouth is closed and right.

Woke up this morning and the mag was very inflated, tentacles totally fluffed out, and mouth closed tight. So excited!

The LED's were still super dim as they just came on, so I turned off all the flow and placed the mag on the pedestal. Here's his mouth and the clowns immediately took to it.

Sun came out while waiting for the mag to grip the rock (left the pumps off for almost 50 minutes before he decided to plant his whole foot down and do the fried egg thing):

Since the flow was off, took the chance to snap a photo from above

Turned on the flow after almost an hour!

Clowns love this thing

As of 5 minutes ago, the female finally decided to join in on the fun, and promptly kicked everyone out! Rude!

Thanks all for following! Looks like overall the nem was in excellent health to start with (thanks to @gig 'em) and was pretty stressed from the 15 hour trip to my place from Texas. After 24 hours, it's fully inflated and clearly will not need cipro (at least not from shipping stresses nor damage!).
