I couldn't help myself when pacificeastaquaculture.com posted up a new batch of clams. The one I purchased is 4.5", an absolute stunner. Im happy to have my new maxima as my center piece.

Congrats! I just got one also, just from a different supplier. Such sweet creatures. I will have to check that vendor out.

We’re did you get that nice bowl like live rock for the clam?
It was about 3/4" shelf rock. I chiseled out the center to fit the clam. I took the broken pieces and glued them sorta in an oval to keep the clam from getting knocked over. She never fell over and is attached nicely to the rock

congratulations on the purchase! I love it when they post up new clams (always drooling over them!) but always been hesitant because of the high price tag/nervous about shipping a clam. Yours seems really healthy so far. Was it even stressed during the shipment?

Overnight shipping, packaged very well. Very sensitive to light when the fishies are close. Full mantle extension and attached in under a week. I didn't pull on her, I could see the Bissell threads underneath fully attach. I would say very little stress, I look at it like it was taking a nap. Lol
I'm going to see how this one fares and plan on getting another one.

Clams are hardy and ship well unless get exposed to extreme temperatures. Healthy clams will have white growth on the edge of the shell and have full body tissue so there is no to minimal empty spaces inside closed shells.
As long as your water conditions are good with high Ca and Alkalinity, stable and high light, and as long as the clams are healthy, with no transmittable diseases like parasitic snails and Pinched Mantle Disease (PMD), they should thrive with little care provide they are not bother by other tank inhabitants.
The price certainly a huge prohibition. They are not cheap by any mean, but they are sooooooooo... beautiful.
