Some Quick Tips.
Clean hands.
Quarantine, Quarantine, Quarantine. I cannot stress this enough.
In fact, its not a bad idea to have a whole other tank setup as a hospital tank.
Research.. And research some more.
Plan your Reef, Avoid impulsion buying if you can. Pick out some nice corals that you like and aim for those only.
Mitigation is your best friend.
There is such thing as too little and too much, Reefing is about maintaining a balance and stability.
When it comes to equipment, Shop wisely. Just because its expensive doesn't mean its good. Subsequently If its cheap it might not be nasty. Take the Aquaone G216 Skimmers. Cheapest Skimmers on the market and beat everything in its size range. Check Reviews, even more so Forum reviews from real people and not those Advertising reviews most websites do these days.
Look at what works for others and avoid reinventing the wheel.

Cheers
Taipan.

Welcome to R2R
Have you looked at the BRS 52 week reefing videos, they are a great basis for a starting point.
Local hobbyists and some Qualified folks at your local LFS might help.
Compile you questions and fire away.

First plan what you want to stock in terms of livestock .
Research what’s required and compatibility with other wish animals .

Make A few Purchases
1) test kits ( Hanna and salifert a my fav )
2) rodi water filter
3) refractometer for measuring salinity
4) choose rocks ( live or dry )
And on avenge 1-1.5 lbs per gallon

That’s the bad part of this hobby .
there are millions of routes to get the the same general destination .

the journey getting there is the rewarding part of this hobby
