A lot of distributors do that already, they also don’t feed the fish for days to prevent waste during shipment
Thanks for this. It makes sense that most distributors would do this but it's still good to read. A friend who runs an LFS mentioned receiving a bag of fish that were affected by ammonia poisoning. He said it was an awful thing to see and even worse watching them die one by one.

Sounds like a salinity problem. If you didn’t check it yourself on arrival then you don’t know the salinity. Don’t take anyone’s word for it, TEST don’t TRUST.
I agree testing salinity would have been a good idea, but I would tend to trust Biota more than I would a lfs. Also, even if the shipping salinity was lower than 1.024 he acclimated it to his tank. I personally doubt salinity was the culprit.

So we found him and I actually bust out my old 75 gallon tank and set up as a quarantine real fast.. it has no filtration on it but better than a bucket, should I leave the power head on all night? Also it seems he won’t eat anything, I’m guessing from the stress

Tangs absolutely need good aeration so you need to get that somehow. Lots of air stones or good flow (if he isn’t getting shoved around). They are used to 100 saturation in the wild and generally the first to perish in power outage or such situations where oxygen becomes critical.

Give him something to hide inside and dim the lights. Can just use room lighting.

A methalyn blue bath can help with ammonia burn.

He seems to have made it through the night just fine, after i turned out all the lights I noticed him being a bit more active, swimming around the borders of the tank, Turns out the extra heater I have is no good but I'm having a buddy let me borrow one today. What are the next steps that I should take? Also thank you everyone for bearing with me being so clueless and giving me very helpful advice!

Do you have an air stone in the water?

If not, get that power head up near the top actually sucking in some air and creating bubbles to both move and oxygenate the water.

I do have an airstone in front of the powerhead so that it moves it all around..
Lower the air stone. It’s not the bubbles providing the oxygen but rather the air to water mixture as it reaches the surface

To tag someone just type an "@" symbol then start typing their username. It will pop up matching usernames. Once you type in enough of their username to see the correct user just click on the their name (or at least this is how it works on my phone).

Also, this was from early August, so I'm guessing their is no helping the OP at this point.
