Hi Evryone,

Brought home a blue tang, 3 chromis and a purple fire fish after cycling my QT tank 4 days ago.

The other fish are fine and eating, the blue tang is also eating but not with excitement. I notice when watching him he does this but when I leave he doesn’t.

Is this flukes? If it was ich would the white dots not show by now?

I have power copper and api general cure with fluval evo 13.5g.

? Should I use both?
? What dose should I use for the api general cure as the packet is for 10g?
? When should I redose api gc?
? When should I do water changes?
? What schedule should I follow?
? Power copper 2 or 2.5ppm? And how often should I test??

Thanks T

Thats a lot of fish to add at once. The risk here with multiple fish is if any one or more are carrying smething however, good move in placing them in quarantine tank. Im not sold that this is scratching and/or flukes but to begin, use the PraziPro over general cure which has a low amount of prazi but if you want to use the GC and have it, try it.
Follow after two to three treatments with coppersafe at 2.15[[m and monitor with hanna brand copper test kit for 4 weeks deeming the fish safe for display thereafter

The tang is scratching pretty severely, probably has flukes. General Cure is praziquantel and metronidazole. That will work against flukes. I don't like to dose that at the same time as copper, but some people get away with doing that. Otherwise, what I would do is to dose the GC one time. This will knock the flukes back, but won't kill their eggs. Then, 48 hours later, do a 25% water change and start the copper treatment at 2.25 ppm for 30 days. After that, do two GC treatments, 8 days apart with a 25% water change prior to the second treatment.

How about a fresh water dip? Also my tank is 13.5 should I do 1 pack or try and get close to 1.5?

I wouldn't do a FW dip, it won't help much, if at all.

I think your tank probably holds about 10 gallons of actual water, so I would dose one packet.

Dosed GC last night and today I dont see him scratching, should I just forgo the copper for now and do the second treatment of GC? Also if I do that should I do a water change at 48hrs or before the next dose at 7 days?

Last ?? some fish have lost their appetite is that because of the GC?

Some people report their fish don’t feed well after prazi treatments. I’ve never seen that myself. Be sure to aerate the tank well.
You can run a full course of prazi first, but that leaves your fish open to protozoan diseases. If you do that, watch them closely for ich spots or rapid breathing,

Thanks for all this great info…

So i kept the tank at 2.5 and did api general cure. Did a water change last night and dosed the replacement water to 2.5.

My tang has two white spots that showed up before getting to 2.5, one dropped of last night 3x days into 2.5 but still has one on the is head. How long until they all fall off??

I am also running an evo 13.5 estimating tank volume of 12. Lastly after dosing api general cure for the 2nd time ammonia went up is that normal?

As for feeding he nibbles but not fully eating. I have a small live rock with algae I see him crazing. I have tried nori, pellets. Mysis shrimp and brine just nibbles no real eating. The other fish are eating like crazy.

The Plan
Sunday - Week after starting api general cure do second. Dose.
-Wed - second dose
-Fri - water change
Repeat the above for a 3rd week all while keeping copper at 2.5?

Does that make sense? And any recommendations

Ok I'm not the tang police and keep a couple in a tank smaller than they should be but are you really putting all these fish in a 13.5 gallon tank? I've never been able to keep multiple chromis is 6ft tanks. A blue tang in a 13.5 ? I hope I'm missing something here or this is not going to end well.
EDIT: Apologies if that is your QT and you have a larger DT

I generally say that internal Uronema shows up within 45 days of a fish’s importation.
