Hey guys. Wife and Is 75 gallon has some highly annoying what looks like brown hair algae taking over our rocks. It's in both of our tanks. Wiping it immediately removes it.

Our fighting Conch has taken care of nearly all of it in the zoa garden rocks. Our starry blenny and foxface also regularly eat at it.

Is this just our basic new tank algae, or is this something worse? When we had our 20 gallon, I wanna say we went through this and I think it was just basic new tank algae, but I can't remember now. It started big time once the lights were added. I also just added some chemi pure blue to help get our Phosphate down.

Lights are Current's new R24 LEDs. Sunrise at 9:30 am, sunset at 8:30 pm with a 2 hour moonlight fadeout.

At max intensity, Blues during the day are at 85%, whites at 40%, greens at 10%, and red at 20%.

Parameters:
Salinity: 1.025
Temp - 77/78
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 5-10
Ca: 440
Phosphate - 0.25
Kh - 9 - 161.1

In terms of the uglies it looks bad, but not “too” bad. (Conchs are great, by the way. Probably why your sand is as good as it is.) While there’s not much in the tank, can you lift out the rocks and scrub the GHA off with a toothbrush, just to stay a bit ahead of it?

Unfortunately not. It's a huge glued piece as one rockwork form. I can scrub some right before a water change though.

It came right off when I scrubbed the zoas, so I assumed it was all new tank ugly algae and in time will work itself out once my Phosphate gets lowered?

The conch though has been amazing in the 40 gallon for ridding it. The one in our 75 isn't nearly as active.

Glad it's not dinos most likely!

I also had a bacteria bloom caused by something stupid I did. Tank has been cloudy, but chemi pure blue is starting to clear it up.

Our toadstool, frogspawn, and hammer corals haven't been opening up early as much as usual during this small reset.

This is quite the learning experience from freshwater for sure!

And my WC are 10 gallons weekly. Is that sufficient on a 75?

My 125 planted is pretty much self sustaining now and I just guess on those water change levels. I'm doing 5 gallons weekly on the 40 gallon. Should that be 10 as well?

Our uv sterilizer will be in this week. Hopefully it will knock this bloom out. Our Sunset Monti is losing all of its color as of today :(
