Hey all! I have a new tank build where I had transferred my existing 90 gallon to a newer tank. I salvages one rock that contained mushrooms and some of the sand (which I ran through saltwater to clear out the muck). Started with dry Marco rock and filled the balance of sand with some new Carib sea.

Four weeks in and everyone has been doing well. Diatoms are on their way out and now getting replaced with a strain of algae. Not sure about it as it has a “tree” like furry structure. Thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Can't tell from the image, but it could be bryopsis.
It must be bryopsis, it’s difficult to pull and it is growing like crazy. Within two days of manually pulling as close as I can get to the rock, it returns tall and wavy. I understand that breaking it how I’ll just lead to more and it is now growing on the sand bead.

CUC doesn’t seem to both with it and the Tomini Tang, who is an algae fiend will not bother with it either. Ordered some FluxRX to start dosing. Thanks for your input!

Tread cautiously with the algaecide. I used it on a tank not to long ago to remove green hair algae and what I believe to be bryopsis and ended up totally overrun with cyano shortly afterward. It took care of the green stuff no doubt but the cyano was worse IMO

Agree, but I’ve read people struggling with alternate methods to battle Bryopsis. I have read some success with elevated magnesium as well as failures. if it is Bryopsis, there don’t seem to be many options.

just wanted to add a “next day” image. It’s definitely Briopsys as you can start to see the fern-like structure. It’s growing like fire, now the tomini is picking at it, but immediately spitting it out. Going to dial-back lighting and try to siphon out manually with tonight’s WC while I wait on the meds. I’ll also try and increase the mag and report back my experiences.
