Hello everyone. Glad to be here, what a wealth of information! I could probably read posts all day, every day for a year and not get through them all. I'm in the planning/acquisition phase of setting up a 70 to 80 gallon Planet Aquarium with a 53g refugium. I'm trying to go as natural and minimal as possible, meaning no skimmer, filters, baffles, etc. Just one big refugium with lots of rock, sand, chaeto, macroalgaes, CUC's, etc. I have lots of thoughts and questions. Should I do a thread on this build to get ideas and feedback?

Welcome :) Skimmers are natural. It's how mother nature cleans the ocean. We just are implementing it mechnaically since we don't have significant tidal forces creating it for us.
Ok, thanks. I'll keep that in mind. The reason I've been thinking no skimmer is because I'd like the fuge to be a secondary display tank, and would prefer to not have a skimmer taking up a third of that space. Some people I've talked to say it can be done with a big enough fuge, some say skimmers are absolutely neccessary.

If you do decide to go forward with a fuge and no baffles, be careful to do something to keep the macro algae out of the return pump. Good luck! :)
