Hi Everyone! This is my first post here!
I just started cycling my saltwater tank last Wednesday (March 9th). No questions, just wanted to say how neat this all is. haha.
I started out with white dead (?) rock (the pros will have to correct me on any wrong terms/information I spew), a few "live" shells to help the process along as well as a used filter medium from an established tank that I added to my filter.
I have not tested any water yet and I have added nothing to my water to jump start the cycling process.
I did test my salt level and its at 1.025 as I need to add in more water due to evaporation.
I'll post some pics here from this past week:
Here's what I started with (minus the sand) when I was figuring out how I wanted it to look.
Here's what it looked like on Sunday (march 13), lots of the brownish diatoms (?)
And here it is today (march 15th), cleared up a lot and I have a number of copepods on the glass moving through the thin layer of algae that's on it.
And that's it so far!
looking forward to learning more!
