See that “white” torch? Three days ago it wasn’t white. It was reddish, maroon with blueish teal tips and a little more extended.

Everything else in the tank is doing fine, other than the bubble gum digi not having much polyp extention. That digi has been in for two weeks and I got a little more aggressive dipping it than I maybe should have.

That bleached torch has been in a month and has been fine. Until it bleached a couple days ago. Water parameters are okay, the only real change is the pH decreased a little because it’s been cool and windows have only been cracked open. It’s normally around 8.15ish.

I’ve attached a current screen shot from my Apex and the cresults of the last water tests. The tests were done Friday.

Any ideas why the torch would bleach and what I might do about it?

I turned the lights down yesterday. Thank you for your input, I really appreciate it.

Unless you id something else, I'd assume the ph drop aggravated another adverse condition, like too much light.
Can you run the skimmer air outside, even as just a test to see if returning to higher ph remedies the problem?
Another possibility: I had an acro bleach when sun hits the tank 1st thing in 5he am. Had to start covering 1 side with cardboard. Took a month to get color back.

I can’t get a airline for the skimmer outside, but, I am thinking about switching from sodium bicarbonate to soda ash to bring the pH up. I’ll set up my Apex to alternate between the two based on pH to keep it stable.

Assure you are not getting a false reading on salinty. Test it manually.
Moderate light and water flow is main requirement plus feedings 2-3X per week.

Salinity 1.025
ph 8.1 - 8.3
temp 77-79
alk 8-9.Mag 1300
CA 400-450
ammonia .03
Nitrate .04
Phos .05 +/_ 1

I also saw an improvement when I split my doses evenly throughout the day, vs only at night. More stable water.

I measure salinity with a Hanna Checker and back that up with a refractometer 2-3 times a week. I don’t trust the Apex salinity probe. Although honestly it only been far off a coup,Ed of times over the last 3 mo this because of bubbles from the skimmer.

I dose two part in 24 separate doses each 30 minutes apart. Calcium on the hour and bicarbonate on the half hour.

I’ve fed it once or maybe before it bleached. I feed Reef Roids.
Ove fed it a couple times since it bleached.

maybe try some finely chopped meaty food (mysid or rods or whatever), just a bit, target fed while pumps off. See if it will eat esp while bleached
