Night Howler Frag Tank Build

Diatoms set in gonna grab some more cuc and more copepods. The copepods seem to be doing great in the tank so far helping fight the diatoms down but feel as if introducing some more will be beneficial. Have some clean up to do and first water change coming soon thinking a 10g change for the first time and 5g weekly after that depending on how testing is going. New video posted with everything flowing......

The whole copepod vs diatom thing is super new to me, have you seen the brs video they did on that? Super cool they showed at a microscopic level how the pods eat them, believe algae barn said they have to dose diatoms to grow so many pods.

Yea been doing a lot of reading and watching all the rock in the sump is mature and running 24hr lights on the sump for now with no diatoms but my dry rock in the display has some but the mature rock doesnt crazy to see. The pods are from the mature rock havent added any but they are thriving its cool to see since i havent added any pods to the actual tank itself

Sounds like your doing everything right, that dry rock will be growing coraline in no time.

Update from today cleaned the sand up a little more cleaned up detritus on the barebottom half and started to blow out the rubble box that the snails love to be in. Things are looking good have a grumpy acan that i feel as if is trying to poop lol....other then that things are looking great.....

Well finally got my pruple firefish i have been wanting say hello to Virginia Hill. We have a theme with mobster names and cartel names for all fish in this house Virginia Hill was Bugsy Seigel's gf back in the mob days and was known for her elegance and beauty. I think the name fits and the wife really likes it as well....here are some pics of Tony and Elvie as well....so far so good everyone leaving eachother alone. Cant wait to catch Pablo (Escobar) and put him in this weekend....

So frogspawn green purple tips...another blacklight torch.....3 diff gonis.....trumpet coral....2 gonzo shrooms....another no name shroom and plate coral all added today. The tank has the pop i was looking for have some rocks that will be going sump bound in the next day or 2 to free up space on the rack. Had em on the rack getting blasted by a powerhead when i first started the tank to get everything settled in and now they are just taking up real estate again pics to come soon but here is a teaser shot.....

Well some full tank shots and will get some individuals in a few things are looking good so far have a finicky trumpet coral that im hoping recovers idk the only thing that isnt wanting to open up. But gonna give it time no tissue recession or anything just needing some time i think....

Well did a thing yesterday and grabbed a mimic tang for 30$ he is a juvi and we have decided to bame him Gotti. He thoroughly enjoys hanging with Virginia. Here is also some update pics have moved some things around recently to hopefully help them out and scrubbed some rock to get some nasties off.....big shout out to @Lost in the Sauce @MERKEY @Projects with Sam @NowGlazeIT @JuanGutz @LRT for all the words of wisdom and just being some bangers on r2r thanks guys for helping me get to this point. Yalls tanks inspire me to do the best i can with it....

Well after talking with lost we are both fairly certain its not a mimic at all but a juvi orange shoulder tang good catch bro.

Initially the shape got me, then noticed the orange stripe rather than brown blotch behind the fins.

Orange shoulders are an awesome fish but be aware, they have the potential, to grow into one of the largest bodied tangs. Mine has put on about 3" in a year which isn't super fast, imo.

They have a fun habit of trying to eat off of the surface of the water, and making bubbles come out their gills. They are goofy and beautiful.

Took on a good project this weekend and installing the doser and made some diy dosing containers with a few push connect bulk heads and some silicone tubing. Did some wire management and was able to get the back area ready for the ato. That will be the next project super happy with the way everything came out. My daughter was super happy with it and loved helping daddy get it done....
