We've talked about coral, now let's talk about fish... We all want beautiful and peaceful fish. But we can't always get what we want! Maybe a murderous tank bully, a sickly fish that is prone to illness, or a fish that won't come out of hiding. Do you have a fish that you've banned from your reef? Let's discuss it!

Is there a fish that you swear you will never own again?

Sadly no more pigmy angels. Such a beautiful fish. I had 1 flame angel that was a model citizen for a couple of years. Then my 2nd 1 was the harrasser and chief of my tank then when he started taking out my Acans he had to go.

Never had a fish I regretted. There is one that I wouldn't try again though. I tried a green mandarin once. Proved very hard to get to eat and ended up not making it.

Powder blue Tang
Sohol Tang
Lavender tang
Purple tang

It seems the prettier they are, the more aggressive.

Have gotten better for me:

Agree with @00W . Dottybacks. I usually research my fish pretty well and I didn't just that one time...and my peppermint shrimp paid the price.
Crazy little terrors those things my goodness....

Lionfish and grouper’s because I don’t have the tank or the live marine feeders to keep them properly.

Pipefish and sea horses and dragons are also not going to make my tank because they also require more specialized care and collection than I am willing to do.

I had a yellow tailed damsel in my first tank over 20 years ago. It killed everything I put in that tank back then, and lived for several more years after I gave the setup to a friend. This time around I don't even look at damsels other than the clowns I have.

Just by there reputation, not by my experience, I won’t get a dottyback or any damsels other than my oscellaris clowns.
For what it's worth, i have a 3" Bandit dottyback (Pseudochromis perspicillatus) in my 200. He's chill as, doesn't bother anyone and is one of the most curious, personable and most fearless fish i've ever seen, i really like him. He'll swim up to you if you put your face right against the glass and stare at you with his cute little face. That being said he's tied with 2 other fish for being smallest in the tank and i have a lot of aggression-resistant rough and tumble fish. No Firefish or cardinals here.
