Hi reefers,

I noticed that I had a bloom of nuisance brown and green hair algae starting to grow over my rocks so I began testing constantly and trying to get to the bottom of if. I then realized that my RO/DI unit wasn't giving proper 0 TDS water, so I went and replaced the sediment filter and it started working properly again. I have probably been doing water changes and ATO with 30-40 TDS water for at least the last couple of weeks unbeknownst to me. I dosed my tank one time with a very small amount of No3Po4x and it brought my Nitrates down a good deal and took my Phosphates from 0.07 to 0.00 on the Hanna Checker. My nitrates have gone up since my last dose of No3Po4x but my phosphate is still reading 0.00. Would dosing No3Po4x again cause cyanobacteria since my Phosphates are so low? Also, is it safe to use No3Po4x and Vibrant at the same time?

Any help would be appreciated.

NOPOX is carbon dosing where it "feeds" bacteria, which then multiply and consume the nitrates and phosphates in your tank. If doesn't work by a single dose. It needs time for the bacteria to multiply and be removed by your skimmer...over weeks and months.

Not sure what you saw after a single dose.

If you decide to stick with dosing NOPOX, start slowly so that you reduce the likelihood of cyano....because cyano also could use NOPOX to multiply.
