Tested Alk with my new hanna alk tester and it was pretty low at 5.3, so I have been adding 2 part over the last few days and there is a noticable improvement with my zoas. Going to pick up the calc tester soon, I love how easy they are to use.

I did not like my Hanna calcium tester at all. Love all the other Hannah checkers. I went with the Red Sea calcium test and love it. Your tank is looking great.

Thanks Barrett! What didnt you like about the calcium checker? I have Red Sea kits as well, but I find them annoying to use.

Never could replicate the results, in my honest opinion it was not accurate at all. One test would be 430 the next test at same time 400 the results were all over the board

Oof, ok that's good to know. I haven't checked the calcium in a while, going to do that later this evening. What other hanna testers do you have? I'm thinking about picking up that new salinity tester too.

Nice, Marine Depot has it in stock so I'm going to order it this weekend. The calcium tester has 21 reviews and 4.5 stars, I might pick that up as well.

It sounds like there are additional steps to the calc test, and using distilled or uncontaminated RODI water is a necessity when calibrating it. Do you have an older tester? Sounds like it was revamped sometime in 2017 or early 2018?

I have the new one with the special collector deal, I used Hanna’s RODI and still don’t work worth a darn for me. Plus there are to many steps, I find the Red Sea test much easier. You will love the new salinity/temp tester it is awsome.

Yep, I just wanted to post it as a reference. Seems like my tank is consuming a decent amount of Alk and Cal, so I have to figure out how much to dose. I've been doing a very conservative 10ml Alk and about 7ml Cal every other day. So I'm going to up it to 10 each every day for a few days and see where that gets me.

I'm going to order that hanna salinity and temp meter, and the flipper scraper today.

Checked Alk again a couple hours after a 5g water change using Red Sea Coral Pro, and it's up to 6.3 now. I guess that's about what I was expecting, it's probably around a 10% water change. So at least now I know going forward I don't have to worry about shocking the system with WCs using RSCP.
