I have three Regals! Had for over a week. Two come out of hiding but I never see them eat! They don’t look skinny but very worried. I feed frozen, pellets and Nori and going to add some Ulva. I see them eat pellets but the spit out. I do love them. Just hoping they thrive. Would be awesome to see all three mature. But I know these are not easy.
gotta say I'm jealous! May I recommend a blue cheek butterfly for you? I wish my tank is as big to support all these big angels and butterfly!

was thinking about buying the captive goldflake... but I think I will stay away from it to be honest, i always believe wild fish color to be way superior than the captive bred ones, as shown in yellow tangs and clownfish

I may have to consider more butterflies. I’m taking a break from adding any more right now. (I think LOL) while I set up my eel tank.

I wouldn’t buy the Goldflakes again from Biota without some pictures. As I am realizing it is hard to believe these are pure Goldflakes. My LFS gets wild and captive. He knows there is a demand for captive but he prefers the wild for the color and feels they are potentially more hardy.

Do your captive bred ones loon like this? This is a captive bred Goldflake x Griffis hybrid almost undocumented in the West but I’ve seen them in Asia.

I’m feeding too much!!! Lol. I have an oversize skimmer and will be getting my refugium going. All the fish I’ve had for 3+ months are nice and fat.
4-6 ounces of frozen plus 4 cycles from auto feeder daily

Yeah they certainly don’t have the black tails. Tried to get a better pic of the captive bred. The wild caught has the black tail.

Yeah this is pretty weird. I don’t know to be honest, I’ll leave it to more experienced members. So far though I can confirm these two definitely aren’t the real deal. The body color also looks a bit muted. My bets are on the relatively unknown Goldflake x Griffis hybrid (at least in the West).

We put a call into a Biota and sent them the pics. Hopefully they will respond and shed some light on the subject. Will post any new info as I get it.

This is what a pure bred captive goldflake looks like he is only dwarf size atm though got him cheap as chips
