I have 10lbs of KP aquatics rock showing up this week. Hopefully it’s good stuff!

I am considering turning my lighted refugium in my sump into a cryptic refugium and then introducing some macro into the DT to help with nutrient export.

This fox face started as such a scaredy cat but had since become an excellent beggar, folllowing me around the tank constantly. What a great fish and personality! He is fat and happy, idk what my phones filter did some strange stuff around his rib cage!

Nice looking reef. How do you like the razor 150 and can you share your settings? I got the same one for an upgrade tank and was looking for a starting point.

Also saw you used the Aussie and kp live rock which one you like more and why? I’m looking at those 2 and TBS for my future sump.

Thank you! I really like the razor, it’s a great light! It gives a “T5” look to the tank, great spread. I have it ramp up and down throughout the day with mostly blue in am and evening. In the middle of the day I have every channel at 100%.

IMO the Aussie rock is impossible to beat as far as unique shapes go. The shapes are truly incredible! The KP stuff has way more life though. I think using a combo is the best choice but if forced to pick just one I would say Aussie.

Some of the rules I have always broken are never QTing, no testing, using ocean rock, allowing "pests" to live happily in coexistence with my reef, no dosing, no chemicals besides prime, no filtration additives besides carbon about once every few months to clear the water, and others I am sure.

My general philosophy in reefing has always been to create as natural an ecosystem as possible. I see the tank as the ocean, the refugium as the estuary, and the skimmer as the beach. I allow all life to live and thrive in my tank in order to fill its natural niche in my tank. I believe even things such as red planaria play a vital role in my system. By allowing everything to thrive in my tank just one thing will never take it over. Checks and balances.

I just wanted to give an update on my candy basslet and let everyone know that it’s doing great. It’s out and about quite a bit now although it is always close to a cave. Cool little fish for sure!

So I decided to ditch my chaeto in my refugium in hopes of growing a caulerpa species instead. I did this because I just think caulerpa is more aesthetically pleasing. I have to say I have been thoroughly disappointed though as the caulerpa is not growing fast enough and now GHA is overgrowing it in my sump and some has even sprouted in my DT. I think I’m going back to chaeto.

Here is some of the GHA I have developing in my DT since removing chaeto and replacing with caulerpa in my refugium. For some reason the caulerpa does not seem to grow nearly as quickly as chaeto. I need more chaeto in my life right now lol.

I did move one of my urchins over there and he is doing a great job mowing some down.
