So I’ve had this anemone for four months now, and he developed this weird bulge on his outer rim. It seems like he’s unable to deflate this bulge. Thoughts?

I was just about to post about a bulge on my anemone and figured I could group it here. Mine hasn't attached yet either and I'm wondering if this is why. :(

This one seems like possibly ammonia burn?

If it's not attaching...there's a problem.

This one looks like a tentacle thats gotten twisted. It's doing fine. Don't worry. If you are that worried......you can cut it off.. but I'd leave it so you don't cause pain. Just watch for any infections or weird habits.

I don't know where ammonia burn would come from.. the LFS?

I bought it ~2 weeks ago and apparently it's normal for LTAs to take their time and be very picky when attaching. Besides this bulge (new) and not attaching, the anemone looks full and responds to food. ;Bookworm

Hmmm I thought it was a twisted tentacle too. I tried untwisting it yesterday, but there wasn't anything to untwist.

I will say the anemone isn't able to open up as much as it use to ever since it started developing this bulge on it's rim. I think I'm just going to continue watching it.

Well, how old is your tank? Have you checked for ammonia? Parameters?

I can't say for sure it is burn. Could also just be it's swelling a bubble to use it to move. Might not be getting the current it needs to move from where it is. If it were a burn, it would look alot more angry though. It looks fine.

Tank is 9 months old but just moved it on Jan 1st so did basically a full water change.

We used a Salifert color test for ammonia and it seemed like zero.

Parameters:
temp 77-78
salt: 33-33.5
ph 8.2-8.3
calc 380 (increasing this)
mag 1120 (increasing this)
alk 9.6
phosphate 0

Yes...I bet it actually is ammonia burn. I bet you had a spike when you put that sand in the tank again... probably a small one, but that's enough.

Ah ok. To clarify, we didn't touch the sand at all (left it all in the tank) when we moved it.

Hmm, moved across town or the house? I honestly can't say one way or the other. It could be doing nemmie things. With nemmies, you alot of the time just have to watch
