Hello @Lou Ekus and @Hans-Werner,

I am really pleased with the performance of Bacto Balance and I wanted to give you a little more information about my setup in case it is helpful to you.

I am one month into restarting my RS Reefer 625XXL (System total = 165 US/Gal), with new dry Marco Rock and Caribsea Sand (Special Grade). Once I got NO3 and PO4 to a ratio of 1:100 with TM Elimi NP, I began dosing Bacto Balance at 50% (0.787ml/day) for 2 weeks, then increasing to the max recommended for new tanks (1.575ml/day). I cannot believe the polyp extension on my corals and how clean the sandbed is! A few pics from tonight:

@Lou Ekus and @Hans-Werner Thank you, again. I believe a lot of the success I have enjoyed thus far in my reboot is due in part to the quality of the TM products I am using. I also appreciate your visibility on the R2R Forums and willingness to help/instruct our community.

Now... can you please begin working on a serum to make me appear 10 years younger??

Sweet looking tank ! Love that look of taking off the black film on back wall…:smiling-face-with-sunglasses:

watch your nutrients carefully using NP…as like you, it started out awesome with the NP, then cyano crept in… I’m guessing cuz of them dropping too low…got an open post with lou/Hans now and waiting ☹️

Hello, are things still going well with this tank? I just started a new tank that has cycled and been running for 3 weeks. I started with dry rock and barebottom. I cycled using fritz turbo start and currently have 4 mollies, a few snails and a few corals. I did put a tray of sand and rubble from my establish sump in this sump after the cycle. My nitrates and phosphates are a little high yet, nitrates 15.7 and phos 0.24. My thoughts are now or very soon will be a good time to start bacto balance as the literature says it will reduce and maintain N and P but not deplete them. Does this sound like a reasonable plan? Most of what I can find posted has quite a bit of negativity about dosing a new tank so I thought I would ask here since it looks like you have done something similar. I normally just seed a tank and wait but I figured I would use bottled bac and dry rock this time as I wanted to build my rockscape for this tank. That and I have been wanting to try something different just to mix things up a bit. Thanks

Hello!

Yes, once I got my NO3 and PO4 to about a 10:1 ratio, I started dosing BB at 50% as recommended and slowly increased dosage as suggested on the instructions. Initially, I used Elimi NP to get them down in range.

However, I recently changed my strategy and am transitioning to the ZeoVit method. I try and post monthly updates and photos on my build thread.

My biggest challenge with reefing so far, is that I like to tinker. :disappointed-face:
