I'm looking for opinions or experiences with cutting a single glass center brace into 2 separate braces.

I just picked up a used 125 freshwater tank that I am going to convert to salt. The problem is the huge glass center brace. The brace is 13" wide and is going to make things a little awkward for what I was planning to do with the tank.

I was thinking I could remove the brace and cut it into 2, 6" wide braces and Install them back in spread 16" apart. Any thoughts? Good idea, bad idea.

Theoretically that will work. You might want to purchase two new smaller braces rather than cutting it. I would think 3-4" would be wide enough. Cutting a narrow piece from a heavy brace can be difficult with a hand cutter. I have also found it difficult to remove those large center braces on older tanks.
