My boss Page Alexander approached me about putting together an office tank.

I started trolling my lfs fb pages. I ran across a jbj 28 cube for $50. I I'm lualynn aquatic gems and told them I would take it.

Stefan What happened to the JBJ.
@sfin52 The plans all changed once covid hit. I was walking in petco and they had a $1 gallon sale so I bought a 40 breeder.

The hood light is not working
Pumps have to be replaced was planning on upgrading
Stand is rubbish and I will through it away tomorrow. The stand had serious water damage and was particle board. It swelled and all the screws are rusted.

new lights. Ideas welcome
New pumps suggestions
Won't need a stand we got plenty of places to sit it in the office.

I know you can buy stock replacement parts at Marine and Reef. I have plenty of stuff you can have too! Don't buy anything yet. Let's see what we can do free. I have something else to send you anyway.

That would be so cool. Welcome
This is sweeeeet! When I worked at Bloomberg there were thousands of gallons of marine tanks in the building. Really miss that.
@Katrina71 welcome and thank you

I see it came with the upgraded InTank media basket, that’s crucial. (The stock one is garbage, and the intank upgrade was like 40-50$). I would recommend drilling as many extra holes in it as you can, water flow is going to be an issue.

for the returns: DONT UPGRADE, see above.. (water flow is an issue!). The ones that come with it work just fine. They are each rated for 268gph I believe, working together you get about 20x turnover. It says 28g but once you put in rock and sand you end up with closer to 26g water volume.

For filtration: I have a small filter sponge on top (the 30g size from petco fits perfectly, but I had to cut it in half to get better flow).

In the middle chamber I put Purigen and a couple media pure spheres, in the lower chamber I keep a bag of Matrix biomedia and a bag of phosguard. I also hang a bag of carbon above one of the return pumps so my kenya leather doesn’t poison everything else :)

I don’t use a wave maker, there’s plenty of flow from the 2 returns imo. Put your ATO sensor in one of the chambers above the returns, that’s where the water level will rise/fall. I keep mine a couple inches below the baffle.
