Hi Everyone,

I just purchased a Orphek Atlantik V4 Compact with Orphek Universal mount. Previous light was a Radion G4 pro and while i loved it, I still had shadowing issues. So BRS had a sale on the Orphek and I decided to grab a Compact after reading and hearing the positive reviews. Question on the universal mount if anyone is using one. It says in the manual that you need 10mm glass thickness at a minimum And the Red Sea Max Nano is 8mm. The brackets fit fine and I’m assuming this is for structural. The light per Orphek weighs 7lbs and spread between two mounting brackets is 3.5 lbs per bracket. I’m thinking this is fine and they were more concerned with the 17lb weight of the full size light. Brackets are pretty wide to distribute the weight evenly. What say you my reefers?

The tank mount will fit tank thicknesses from 10 to 20mm (0.393 to 0.787 inches)

sounds more like a clamp restriction to me..BUT there could be a good structural reason for it..
[email protected] should have the answer..

Please make sure your glass or acrylic thickness is at least 10mm thick (.39) or 3/8 of an

I wouldn't chance it.

I would consider mounting the bracket on the wall behind tank rather than tank and will offer better stability and free up space around your rim for a screened top
You will Love the Orphek. I have a few.

I would not mount directly to the tank either. Wall or DIY bracket. BTW...I'm really loving my Atlntiks. Like you, I decided that these lights would suit me better and I jumped on them when they went on sale. I purchased 3 for a 625xxl. I'm loving the light. My corals are loving it more!

Thanks for the input guys! I’m waiting on an email from Orphek. It seems crazy because i had a XR30 pro on a single bracket that weighed 5 pounds no issues. I was just thinking two brackets spreads the weight even better. I’ll report back what i hear.

Orpheus emailed me back saying they strongly recommend against it. I even emailed Red Sea and they replied with,” the aquarium was designed only for the stock light”. In the end, I wasn’t willing to take the risk and also reading a thread about burned out UV leds led me to returning the light and going back to my G4 Pro.

Too bad, I was thinking about one of these for a REEFER Nano. I'm not allowed to make any more holes in the ceiling around the house. Too many tanks with halides in every room over the years. Looks like a shotgun went off.

Understand....my wife is the same way. No holes in the ceiling. I still think you could make it work if the tank is going up flat against a wall. You can screw the brackets to the wall with anchors or into a stud and the rails should extend far enough. My tank is in a corner so that solution wont work.
