Our True Blue Hornet Zoanthids are colonial type corals of the cnidaria phylum and the anthozoa class. The True Blue Zoanthid is a "true" hornet because of its unique halo around the mouth of the coral and the alternating green/purple skirt. The unique hornet family originated from Indonesia. And for a while, hornets were extremely popular and they commanded a price tag of $50 per polyp, but now you can get them for as low as $10 per polyp! With that being said, at fishnreef, we use curate and grow corals in captivity in order to conserve and preserve the beauty of natural reefs. Another benefit of corals bred in captivity is that the corals are hardier and easy to take care of, especially for beginners.

A big brother to the True Blue Hornets, the Red Hornet also belongs in the cnidaris phylum and the anathozoa class. The Red Hornet is a Palythoa, which means that while it carries similar characteristics as Zoanthid, it is larger in size. Though the Red Hornet also originated in Indonesia, it was originally named the "Devil's Aura" by Neptune Aquatics in 2009. The Red Hornet also has a red halo and alternating red/orange skirts. However, the disc is actually blue and purple in color. Their exclusivity meant they used to sell for $100 per polyp, but now they can be yours for as low as $12 per polyp!

These two popular corals are only a portion of our sale and selection that is still going on!
